One of the most dramatic coastlines on the Sicilian coast lies between Catania and Taormina, where the imposing volcano of Mount Etna towers over the little villages and beaches below. Further down the east coast is the attractive baroque town of Siracusa and beautiful sandy beaches. Round the south eastern side of the island is Modica, a unique and charming baroque town with pretty narrow streets in the historical centre.
Marsala is located on Sicily's western coast about 30 kilometers south of Trapani. The region is known for its beautiful cuisine, the blue sea and its fine grapes which make the fortified Marsala wine. Marsala's fish market is popular and beaches are within easy reach while nature reserves such as 'Lo Zingaro', between Palermo and Marsala, attract those looking to combine pleasant coastal walks and sea swimming.
