Virgin Gorda
Virgin Gorda is an island of rolling hills, beautiful beaches and spectacular geological formations. This little secret capitalises on its quiet charm, "small town" appeal and amiable people. Tourism may be Virgin Gorda's main industry, but with a population of just over 3,000, the way of life is still old-time Caribbean.
Virgin Gorda, which means the "Fat Virgin" in Spanish, reportedly received its name from Columbus who was impressed by the island's feminine curves when viewed from a distance. Two distinctive areas define Virgin Gorda. They are the Valley, with its rolling hills and sprinkling of round granite boulders and North Sound, which is a large sheltered harbour that contains the small community of Gun Creek as well as several resorts.
