| In startling contrast to the gloriously primitive countryside that surrounds it, the charming old house stands peacefully amidst formal gardens where bushes are clipped and shrubs and bright flowers enliven the lawns and terraces. A 250 hectare working farm forms part of the property and, inside, the rooms are furnished with the colours we expect of Spain, colours that are echoed in the many antiques and oil paintings. This is a house that has been lived in for a long time, the décor has come together naturally, without artifice, but concessions have been made to modern times, in the form of a lovely swimming pool. This is overlooked from the house by a heavenly open-air sitting room, shaded by a canopy and furnished with comfortable sofas. From its open sides the full drama of the contrast between the controlled beauty of the garden and the untamed landscape beyond can be fully observed. On the first floor there is a master double bedroom with bathroom en suite, and a separate library/TV room. The other bedrooms are shared between the ground floor of the main house, a studio with outside access, and a separate guest annexe, which also has a sitting room of its own, making this a good house for two families. El Pizarro is secluded without being isolated, with the shops and amenities of Gaucin just 9 kms away. This is definitely a house for people who are intrigued by the Spain that lies behind the façade of tourism. |
