The Maison des Oliviers is the perfect place for a stay in this excitable city – a large Riad, or typical town house, with two floors of rooms arranged around a beautiful patio courtyard. Open to the sky, with two tiers of graceful Moorish arches, the large courtyard houses a lovely swimming pool. This is a true North African town house – a haven of comfort and peace behind inscrutable walls, a secret known only to its inhabitants. On the ground floor, the living and dining rooms, kitchen and two bedrooms are linked by a cloister that opens on to the patio area with its comfortable seating right beside the pool. An arched gallery runs around the second floor, and more bedrooms, plus a fully equipped massage room, lead off from here. The furnishing and decoration is well up to modern European standards, while embracing all the distinctive features of traditional Moroccan living – unusual wall finishes, exquisite colour schemes, elegant local lamps and pieces of furniture. The roof terrace is especially inviting at sunset, with a covered sitting area just right for pre-dinner drinks. The services of a qualified aesthetician can be arranged, at an extra charge, to provide massage, pedicure and manicure – just the thing after a hard day’s sightseeing! A solarium on the roof terrace, air-conditioning in all the rooms, and the services of a cook all add up to make the Maison des Oliviers a very desirable house from which to enjoy Marrakech, one of the world’s most exciting cities. |
