| Sharing a bottle of chilled Robola, one of Kefalonia’s most famous wines, enjoying the fruits of your own labour at the barbecue with friends or family – surely this is the epitome of ‘holiday’. Situated on the road to the quaint rural village of Spartia, which is just 1km away. Villa Athina rises serenely above the surrounding olive and citrus groves,with panoramic views of sea and mountains visible from every room and terrace. The gem in the setting of the well-kept gardens is of course the large swimming pool from which the island of Zakynthos can be seen, floating like a mirage, just out of reach. The rooms are colourful and comfortable, with some rather grand touches, such as marble statues and four-poster beds, that do not look at all out of place in such spacious surroundings. Preparing a meal is unlikely to be much of a chore in the big, well-equipped kitchen that links so conveniently to the outside dining area. Athina really is ideal for a larger group,with plenty of space outdoors and indoors, for relaxed group activities and yet allowing individuals to escape to a quiet corner whenever they wish. |
