Most romantic ruins in olive groves remain just that – ruins, but the Greek owner of Folitsa saw the chance to create a very special cottage, one where he would be able to re-create the atmosphere of an old mountain cabin. The name means ‘little nest’ – an apt description of this small house, built of old sunwarmed stones, and sympathetically, if quirkily, adapted to the needs of today’s visitors. The airconditioned interior is almost entirely open-plan, and the available space is well-organised and practical, with some items of furniture made from recycled materials, which adds to the ‘cabin’ atmosphere. Outside, the generously-sized swimming pool has its own ‘folly’ – an artistically ‘ruined’ wall barely two years old! This charming house enjoys glorious views from the pool area and from the terrace.
