PROPERTY INFORMATION

The house is built on a hillside site amidst groves of olive and cherry trees overlooking a thickly wooded protected area. As far as the eye can see, in a 180-degree arc, are the headlands of northeast Corfu, separated from the charismatic coast of Albania by a stretch of shining sea. The tiny islet of Kaparelli, for which the house is named, forms the focal point of this superb view. The busy resort of Kassiopi is only 2 kilometres away and the dazzling beach of Avlaki, one of the best beaches on this coast, is 1 kilometre away down an unmade country road – a pleasant and peaceful walk or a short car ride. It will not be easy, however, to tear yourself away from the house with its wonderful swimming pool where it is easy to imagine yourself blissfully floating between sea and sky. The terraces are beautifully designed for outdoor living and make a fantastic setting for a session of holistic massage therapy which can easily be arranged. The relaxing atmosphere of the terrace is further enhanced by the provision of a stereo sound system, a drinks fridge and luxurious cushioned seating. Kaparelli House is the home of a young couple with children and reflects their own modern family attitudes – the atmosphere is informal and relaxed, with just enough unusual antiques and elegantly decorative touches to pique the adults’ interest without making them feel they are in a museum! A large kitchen, country-style but uncluttered, opens on to an awning-shaded terrace where the breathtaking view must make breakfast or lunch a very pleasant affair, while dining out at night, with candles lit and moonlight on the sea, is almost unbearably romantic. A TV room opens off the huge living room, perfect for sprawling on the sofa in front of some unmissable programme beamed down by Sky satellite, and a separate room opens off this, equipped as a children’s play room with scaled-down furniture. The Master double bedroom upstairs continues the romantic theme, with a subtle colour scheme of pale olive green, lemon and white, and a private balcony equipped with an outdoor Jacuzzi bath. What a way to end the day, bathing by candlelight with just the owls for company! On the lower ground floor there is a gym equipped with power plate, running machine and exercise bike. The house has resident staff – Josie and Nestor live unobtrusively in the adjacent cottage and look after the running of the house and property – Josie is the housekeeper and a practical cook and will do the shopping and prepare breakfast and one other simple meal each day. She looks after the owners’ children when they are in residence and would be prepared to baby sit for clients in the evenings. A local bakery delivers fresh bread to the house every day. At Avlaki, there are two excellent tavernas serving local Greek food in delightful surroundings, and there is a very well-run Sailing Centre, with tuition in dinghy sailing and windsurfing. Just beyond the beach there is also a horse-riding centre. Kaparelli House is really ideal for a family holiday, with children of mixed ages or perhaps with grandparents too.
