Visitors to the south west of Mauritius cannot fail to be amazed by the spectacular Le Morne Mountain, which rises out of the sea and dominates the aptly named Le Morne peninsular. With an imposing, mountainous backdrop, and glistening white beaches, it is little wonder that these views dominate many travel brochures and posters of the island. Le Morne itself is a tranquil location with a handful of lavish hotels that nestle discreetly amongst canopies of lofty palm trees.
Miles upon miles of powdery white beach fringe the peninsular, affording ample stretches of empty sands. The translucent waters are a tantalising shade of blue and provide snorkellers with startling views of the coral reef underworld. A wide range of water sports is available and a superb golf course boasts some of the best views any golf course can have.
To the north of Le Morne is Black River where the bay offers some good spots for surfing, and, fishing is also a main activity, with some of the nearby resorts offering fishing trips, especially in the angling season – November to March.
The area boasts some of the best quality private villas that Mauritius has to offer, with elegant furnishings and private swimming pools. They are set in elevated positions and boast some of the most magnificent and breathtaking views imaginable, combining rugged mountain ranges, with the bluest seas and an array of gorgeous beaches just a few minutes away.
