Palma Villas

Destination Information

Palma is the vibrant capital of Mallorca situated on the south west coast of the island. There is a wealth of historical and natural sites to be explored; visiting the 14th century Palace of Almundaina, the 10th century Arab baths or walking along the medieval city walls; sailing trips from the harbour; ride on the historic Palma to Soller railway line through the Sierra de Tramuntana Mountains; visiting the 14th century Bellver Castle which sits above the city; or walking through the maze of narrow streets in the old town which reflect their Moorish history.

Shopping in Palma is also great as there are a number of specialist markets in the town. These include the Mercat Artesanal craft market, Mercat Olivar produce market, Rambla flower market, Santa Catalina fruit and vegetable market, and the Rastro flee market. Their opening day of the week depends on the time of year you are visiting but they start early in the morning and finish around lunch time.

There are also a number of special festivals and events held each year in Palma. The most spectacular fiesta is the Sa Rua Carnival when there are parades, bonfires and fancy dress balls - usually from around mid February to mid March depending on the dates of Easter; on July 15th and 16th there are processions of boats and feasts celebrating the blessing of the fishing boats; and there are three sailing regattas in the Bay of Palma in April, August and the beginning of December.
