For a real feeling of seclusion in the most stunning location it would be hard to match Casa Mayato, with the final 5km of the road to the property winding up through the mountains and then descending dramatically on approach. A walk down steps from the parking area takes you to the house itself, and a perfect retreat with matchless views.

The villa is built into the hillside and is surrounded with terraces, leading to a swimming pool carved out of the cliff face itself. Like the house, the terraces are on two levels, and are imaginatively furnished – there is a ‘Moroccan’ terrace, while another has comfortable sofas and an Indian bed – all providing magical settings from which to gaze at the gorgeous sea views. The villa has recently been refurbished to a high standard of modern comfort, but it will prove difficult to stay inside when the outdoor areas are so alluring. Casa Mayato is above a rocky beach, part of a nature reserve, and although it is only 7 minutes walk down to the sea, it must be said that the climb back is steep, and it may be preferable to go down by car. The small family resort of Cala de San Vicente is 7km away, where there is a pleasant sandy beach as well as shops, beach bars and restaurants. This is truly a house for anyone wishing to live, if only for a week or two, ‘away from it all’.
