Destination Information

Carvoeiro was a traditional, small fishing village surviving on tuna catches . It has since developed and become a very popular resort.

There are plenty of shops in the town for your everyday needs. There is an Intermarché on the Lagoa road on the outskirts of Carvoeiro for even more choice.

The town beach, Praia do Carvoeiro is a beautifully sheltered sandy bay and spreads out just in front of the square with cliffs protecting it on either side.

There is a huge selection of bars, restaurants and cafés all within easy walking distance of the centre and with a wide choice of food.

Below the cliff on which stands small white fishermen’s’ houses, Carvoeiro Beach is a picturesque landmark of the Algarve. The small sandy beach sits is home to fishing vessels bobbing in the water, whilst further exploration allows discovery of nearby grottoes and caverns. Behind the beach you will find a range of restaurants, bars and

terraces.

February 21st - Algarve Carnival

Good Friday - The statues of the Virgin Mary and Christ are taken in a procession through the town

April 25th - Liberation Day, National holiday

May 1st - May Day (or Labour Day), National holiday - May Day is a day for celebrations and traditionally the festivities include dancing and music as well as heading into the countryside for a picnic lunch

June - Portuguese Gastronomy Fair - A week long event at the Feiras e Exposições (Fairs and Exhibitions) park in nearby Lagoa. Also includes arts and crafts exhibits as well as fun for all the family

International Algarve Fair in nearby Lagoa - Everything for your home, garden and lifestyle. Also includes children's entertainment, live music, fashion shows a food arena and more

July - "Festival do Caracol" (Snail festival) - A gastronomy festival in the nearby village of Porches

August - FATACIL fair of Crafts, Tourism, Agriculture, Commerce and Industry - Trade exhibitors and also lots of entertainment and fun for all the family including live music, foodstalls, etc

August 15th - Assumption of the Virgin, National holiday

Last Sunday of August - "Festa da Nossa Senhora da Encarnação" (Feast of Our Lady of the Incarnation). Otherwise known as the Carvoeiro town festival

8th September - "Festa da Nossa Senhora da Luz" (patron saint of Lagoa) - A celebrations for the whole of the municipality of Lagoa

October 5th - Republic Day, National holiday

November 1st - All Saints Day, National holiday

December 1st - Independence Day, National holiday

December 8th - Immaculate Conception, National holiday
