Le Vignaie

Imagine an early morning swim, looking at an unbelievable panorama, the mist rising from the Tiber valley below. There can be few houses that combine such complete privacy, and within easy reach of Umbria’s best known medieval jewels.

Le Vignaie is the ultimate bolt-hole, an escape from today’s increasingly frenetic world. Located above the small village of Rancolfo, one arrives in the early summer through verdant countryside covered in yellow broom, and classic Umbrian hills as far as the eye can see.

Le Vignaie is a traditional farmhouse, converted in the last few years by the present owner. Because of its hillside position, the main entrance is on the top floor, leading into an attractive, open beamed living room running the length of the house, with original stone walls, and an American pool table providing endless amusement for guests. Huge French windows let the sun stream in to this charming room with desk and study area, sitting area with fireplace, dining area and kitchen. An eclectic mixture of Bedouin cushions, Indonesian sofas, scattered rugs, Italian cast iron beds combine to make a most charming and cosy home. The cool, stone flagged master bedroom with large, muslin draped (extra long) four poster bed has access straight on to the patio and swimming pool outside.

A natural garden surrounds the house, and the pool is surrounded by a pretty lavender and rosemary edged garden with small grassed area. Le Vignaie is a wonderful family house ideal for those seeking a tranquil spot in which to write, read, paint or walk.

Private Heatable Swimming Pool

12m x 6m, 1.05m - 2.2m deep with ladder steps. Pool Towels. Pool heating payable locally.

The pool is open from mid May to mid September. Outside these dates, the pool can be opened on request for an extra charge.

Please note the diving board for the swimming pool is no longer in place.

Welcome Provisions Included

A welcome gesture to offer you a drink after your journey; tea or coffee and biscuits, wine or juice and a snack. They are not sufficient for an entire meal. Owners will also generally leave a few other items such as some salt, sugar, oil, bin bags and toilet paper.

Food Hamper

Can be arranged for an additional cost and service charge payable locally. For guests who are arriving late or who recognize they may be delayed and arrive with no time to do shopping. Shops are shut on Sundays, so the aim of the Food Hampers is to provide two light meals and two breakfasts, to allow guests to go out for one meal, then do more shopping on Monday. We can adapt these hampers to take into account allergies, dislikes and dietary requirements, or according to whether there are children in the party.

Cook Service

You may wish to avail yourself of the services of a cook while you are on holiday, allowing yourself the luxury of not having to prepare a meal, but at the same time not having to drive back from a restaurant in the dark (and being able to drink as much as you please!).

Clients going to Vignaie can avail themselves of the services of the maid, Luana, usually together with a friend, who both enjoy cooking good local food for guests.  They will shop for and prepare meals, usually in the evening. Their duties include laying the table, serving up to the second course, and clearing up in the kitchen. They do not usually like to work later than 9.30pm; neither do they work on Sundays or Bank Holidays, though they may leave a light meal for these days.

Options

a) Full cook service of 6 evening meals per week, plus a light meal left for Sunday, at €11 Euro per hour per cook, plus the cost of food, to be paid locally. 

b) 3 evening meals per week, at €11 Euro per hour per cook, plus the cost of food, to be paid locally. Please indicate which days you would prefer, if possible:

c) One evening per week (e.g. Saturday evening meal, plus a light meal for the Sunday, both left for you) at  €11per hour, plus the cost of food, to be paid locally to the cook.

Prices and Booking

We charge a one-off booking fee of £20 for a single meal or £50 for any more than one meal in a week. This is payable in advance of departure directly to CV Travel London.

The cost of the cook service is €11 per hour per cook, to include time spent shopping and travelling.  This service is subject to availability so please inform us well in advance if you require a cook service.

If you are happy with these arrangements, we would be grateful if you could ask for and complete the cook questionnaire and return it to us as soon as possible, so that the cooks are informed well in time that you would like them to cook for your party.

Shopping

We suggest you stop on the way to Vignaie and shop for ‘basics’ and food for breakfast for Sunday and Monday mornings. However, if you are arriving late (planes can be delayed), and bearing in mind that almost all shops are closed on Sundays, we suggest you order a  Food Hamper (enough for two light meals, 2 breakfasts, plus ‘basics’ – see the Travel Directory in the Italy brochure).

Note

Please bear in mind that the arrangements outlined above are an extra goodwill service organized by CV Travel, who cannot guarantee that the cook will always be able to prepare meals as requested. Should the cook become unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances, you will be refunded CV’s booking fee.
