Le Ginestre - Borgo Bastia Creti

Sleeps up to: 8

Very private, with beautiful views from its own terrace and garden area, Le Ginestre provides unusually spacious accommodation on three floors, linked by a curving tower staircase. Beautiful spacious bedrooms, elegant marble bathrooms, antique furniture and lovely rugs and fabrics complement the terracotta flagged floors in this well renovated property.

Borgo Bastia Creti is an elegant hamlet set high up in the hills in northern Umbria with glorious views over wooden hills, cornfields and olive groves.

Several of the original dwellings, now individual cottages in the gardens or large apartments adjacent to the courtyard of the hamlet offer very spacious accommodation decorated in elegant, classic country style. Decorative tiles, some of them antiques, have been used in the large kitchens and open fireplaces provide a focal point in the sitting rooms.

Le Ginestre have private furnished outdoor areas and each bedroom has beautifully appointed, spacious en suite facilities and each property has wonderful views.

The original chapel has been converted into a magnificent dining and drawing room - Club Bastia - for guests, with outside grassy terrace with tables and chairs for dining al fresco - delicious evening meals may be ordered in advance.

A gentle stroll leads to the pool tucked into a panoramic grassy terrace and there is plenty of space and shady and peaceful corners in the extensive gardens for all guests. Guests of all ages will also enjoy the hard tennis court.

Borgo Bastia Creti has long been a favourite of CV guests who have come to enjoy the spacious, elegant accommodation while being looked after by the very discreet, friendly and helpful resident staff.

Cook Service

Benito and Rita De Mattia are the House Managers at Borgo Bastia Creti. They are both very keen that you should enjoy your stay, and they will do anything they can to help out with information and advice about the area or respond to any queries you might have during your stay. They also run Club Bastia, a special feature of Borgo Bastia Creti.

Club Bastia is a peaceful and light 14th century chapel with high ceilings and frescoed walls, which has been lovingly converted into an elegant but informal  “Club” or sitting/dining area with antique furniture, where guests staying at Borgo Bastia Creti can watch satellite TV or relax in quiet comfort, take advantage of the fax machine and the computer which are there for guests' use, and, on weekdays, enjoy one of Benito's excellent meals. Guests can sit at small individual tables or there is a long table seating 12-14 for large parties. The main door leads out onto a grassy terrace where meals are served during warm weather.

Benito cooks delicious simple local food, in the evening.  A typical meal is a pasta or risotto dish, meat or fish, vegetables and salad, dessert and coffee. For 2011, Benito will be charging a fixed price of Euro 30 per person per meal, without wine. The club is non-licensed, so guests are asked to bring their own wine (though Benito always has some on hand!).

Arrival weekend

For your first Saturday evening, Benito is willing to leave you a dish of lasagne which you can heat up in your apartment. The cost of this depends on the number of people, but it is very reasonable – as a guide, a lasagna big enough for 2 could be 18-20 euro, one for 4 could be 25 Euro, one for 6 could be 30 Euro. However, he does not provide more than lasagne, so you will have to provide a salad and any dessert yourselves.  Since most shops in the area are shut on Sundays, we recommend that clients order our comprehensive food hamper (enough for two light meals, two breakfasts, plus ‘basics’ – see the Travel Directory in the Italy brochure). Alternatively, providing you arrive in time on Saturday you may prefer to shop locally.

Large parties

Benito is willing to make an exception to the above rule for large parties (8 or more), and cook a full meal for the arrival Saturday. On request (through your consultant in London), he may even be prepared to cook on the Sunday. For larger parties, he is also willing to prepare continental breakfasts at the Club – prices vary according to numbers.

Subsequent evening meals, Monday to Friday

Guests must let Benito know at least 24 hrs in advance if they wish to dine at the Club.  Please note that the Club may be shut on Italian public holidays.

Club Bastia is reserved for the exclusive use of guests at Borgo Bastia Creti

The cook service is available on request and payable locally. Booking fee applies. Please ask for and complete the cook questionnaire on booking.

Please bear in mind that the arrangements outlined above are an extra goodwill service organised by CV Travel, who cannot guarantee that the cook will always be able to prepare meals as requested. Should the cook become unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances, you will be refunded CV’s booking fee.

An English speaking CV Representative in Italy will visit you and will be available by phone during your stay. Contact details will be sent with your travel documents.

Destination introduction

Umbria is one of the most beautiful areas of Italy.  Perugia, the region's capital. is a lively university town packed with artistic treasures (and home to Perugina chocolate), so well worth a visit, as are a host of smaller towns and villages, such as Assisi, Gubbio and Citta di Castello. Few summer visitors will want to miss a visit to Lake Trasimeno, central Italy's largest lake, where they may choose to relax on the shores, enjoy the restaurants of the lakeside towns, or take a ferry to one of the lake's islands.

Some of the most beautiful and culturally rich artistic centres in Italy are to be found in Tuscany so an easy day trip from your chosen Umbrian villa is often a highlight. Florence, with its majestic Duomo immortalised by Brunelleschi and Donatello, beautiful Siena, home of the Palio horse race and the walled town of Lucca are a must see while Arezzo and Cortona are also within easy reach.
