Villa Sorgente

Sleeps: 6 or 10

There can be few locations in Italy that command such a stunning view. The beautiful house and magnificent gardens complete with a romantic lake, has a backdrop of Orvieto on the skyline that could be out of a film set.

Arriving at Villa Sorgente is a complete surprise. Only 15 minutes drive from Orvieto, it is accessed by a long, countrified private drive leading to an electric gate and then to what initially appears to be an almost modest property – then the surprise unfolds as the eye has been fooled. Entering the highly polished terracotta tiled hall, it is clear that Villa Sorgente is a very special property, with a first tantalising glimpse straight ahead of the panorama beyond through a large picture window.

A cosy small sitting room / study (with a piano) makes an alternative to the large and very elegant drawing room, with oil paintings and persian rugs, with all round views maximised by huge glass windows and french doors leading to a lovely dining terrace. Those interested in cooking will be impressed by the very well-equipped kitchen complete with large American fridge.

The layout of the bedroom areas offers great comfort for couples, or as family accommodation. Extensive well-maintained lawns surround the house leading to a pretty lake with resident swans and the swimming pool area, with beautiful roses and lavender walks lining the way.

The pool area is, perhaps, its most spectacular feature, with comfortable furniture and shade combined with the sensational view from above making it somewhere you will be relucant to leave. Sitting with a drink at dusk, with Orvieto Cathedral silhouetted against the starlit sky is a truly memorable experience. Highly recommended.

"We arrived home from our trip last night  still basking in the afterglow of our FABULOUS time at Villa Sorgente. We LOVED our time there.  It was superb! as you know, I was worried and I had so wanted this to be a great time for my family.  We had the best time in the beautiful house and extrordinary grounds of Sorgente.

..thank you so much for all of your help, guidance and answers to my list of intermidable questions. It will be a vacation that we will all long remember."

"The house was wonderful and having the housekeeper was bliss! The ohotos of the house..don't do it justice."

"I must write to tell you what an amazing property Villa  Sorgente is. We are having a tremendous time here. The housekeeper is very  pleasant and accommodating. Your local rep. was very gracious in meeting us here  when we arrived and walking us through everything. That helped a lot as we don't  speak Italian and Mirella doesn't speak English.  Thank you for everything. This is a wonderful experience  for us. "

Shops are shut on Sundays, so the aim of the Food Hampers is to provide two light meals and two breakfasts, to allow guests to go out for one meal, then do more shopping on Monday. We can adapt these hampers to take into account allergies, dislikes and dietary requirements, or according to whether there are children in the party.

Cook Service

The housekeeper is also a good local cook. She cooks for dinner in the evenings, Monday to Saturday (except on Italian public holidays), and she can leave a light luncheon for Sunday or public holidays.  Under particular circumstances or by local arrangement, she may cook lunch instead of an evening meal. She is happy to lay the table and clear/wash the dishes.  She will shop for the meals she cooks.

The cost of the cook service is 15 Euro per hour per cook, to include time spent shopping and travelling. The cook service is available on request and there is a booking fee payable in advance. If you are happy with these arrangements, we need to know very soon if you would like the cook’s services, to book her well ahead of time.  We would therefore be grateful if you ask for and complete the cook questionnaire and return it to us as soon as possible so that she is informed well in time that you would like her to cook for your party.  Please note that the cook service is not available on Sundays or on Public Holidays.

Destination introduction

Those seeking relaxation will find it in abundance amid the tranquillity of Umbria's rolling hills, covered with vines and olives, cypresses, pines, oaks and chestnut trees. It is here where a wide variety of our selected villas are discreetly hidden. For those wishing to combine relaxation with day trips to towns and villages or more active pursuits, Umbria offers a wide choice. From Etruscan through Roman, mediaeval and Renaissance times, the region contains a wealth of evidence of its varied past.

An easy drive from Rome, Pisa or Perugia, Southern Umbria's hill top towns dominate the green countryside. One of our favourite hill towns is Orvieto with its beautiful mosaic fronted cathedral, cobbled streets, good restaurants and twice-weekly market, making it a popular choice for day trips with guests staying in our nearby villas. The hill town of Todi with its attractive historical centre, stunning piazza and breathtaking views draw weekend visitors from Rome and it is a good spot for an evening stroll and ice cream.‑

For those staying near the Lazio border, a day trip to Rome is a must. Home of the Vatican, the first stop for most visitors is the wealth of artistic treasures in its museums. There is too much to take in on one day but the Roman Forum and Colosseum are an easy walk from the central shopping streets, as well as the pretty cobbled streets of the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish steps and Piazza Navona.

Our fabulous collection of luxury villas in Umbria offer a fascinating range of styles and group sizes, perfect for small family get-togethers as well as larger groups.
