Torre Palombaro

Sleeps up to: 12

Torre Palombaro is a perfect example of what a sensitive restoration can do for a classical Umbrian property.

In the little community of Fiore, atop a majestic hilltop sits this beautiful villa. The property’s owners have taken a huge amount of care in creating what really is a luxurious home away from home, certain to be appreciated by the most discerning of guests.

Rare antiques give a classical feel to Torre Palombaro but the property benefits from a surprising amount of natural light due to many large and well-positioned alcove windows. Upstairs, the bedrooms continue the theme of classical elegance with a collection of well-chosen furnishings.

Moving outside, the infinity pool affords a uninterrupted and spectacular view across the valley to the famous Etruscan town of Todi, 7km away by road, including its spectacular 11th Century gothic Cathedral. With lovely churches, exceptional medieval civic buildings, museums, piazza and a host of cultural activities from classical concerts to dancing, Todi is one of central Italy’s loveliest towns. In the evenings, locals gather in the squares and cafes to chatter over a glass or two of wine.

The property also has a beautiful terrazza, equipped with a barbecue and ample shady space for outdoor dining.

The two and a half hectare fenced gardens give ample opportunity for the young or young at heart for exploration and discovery. Further away from the house lives a charming small collection of Sardinian donkeys, sheep and chickens. There is a vegetable garden which supplies the well-equipped modern kitchen, allowing budding chefs to cook up a storm making use of excellent local ingredients.

In a separate part of the grounds live a couple who tend the house and gardens with the care which it deserves, and are also available to cook delicious meals for guests as an extra service.

A holiday spent at Torre Palombaro is a chance to relax in classical style in a secluded yet accessible example of why this area is known as Italy’s untapped green interior.

Welcome Provisions included

A welcome gesture to offer you a drink after your journey; tea or coffee and biscuits, wine or juice and a snack. They are not sufficient for an entire meal. Owners will also generally leave a few other items to get you going such as some salt, sugar, oil, bin bags and toilet paper.

Food Hamper

Can be arranged for an additional cost and service charge payable locally. For guests who are arriving late or who recognize they may be delayed and arrive with no time to do shopping. Shops are shut on Sundays, so the aim of the Food Hampers is to provide two light meals and two breakfasts, to allow guests to go out for one meal, then do more shopping on Monday. We can adapt these hampers to take into account allergies, dislikes and dietary requirements, or according to whether there are children in the party.

Cook Service

Clients going to Torre Palombaro can avail themselves of the services of the housekeeper, Fiora, who enjoys cooking very good simple, local, meals  for guests.  She will shop for and prepare meals, usually in the evening, though she is prepared also to cook light lunches if required, by arrangement.  Her duties include laying the table, serving up to the second course, and clearing up in the kitchen. The cook does not usually like to work later than 9.30pm, nor does she usually work on Sundays or Bank Holidays (except for particular recurrences), though she can leave light meals for these days. If there are numerous clients eating, or if the meals requested are elaborate, Fiora  may need to have someone to help, who will of course also have to be paid.

Options

a)  Full cook service of 6 evening meals per week, plus a light meal left for Sunday (the arrival night meal may also be left, if you arrive late) at 11 Euros per hour, plus the cost of food, to be paid locally.

b) 3 evening meals per week, at 11 Euros per hour, plus the cost of food, to be paid locally.

c) One evening per week (e.g. Saturday evening meal, plus a light meal for the Sunday, both left for you) at  11 Euros per hour, plus the cost of food, to be paid locally

Pricing and Booking

We charge a one-off booking fee payable in advance of departure directly to CV Travel London.

The cost of the cook service is 11 Euros per hour, to include time spent shopping and travelling. Bear in mind that shopping and travelling take up quite a long time. As a very rough indication, a simple two-course meal (plus ice-cream or fresh fruit) for 6 people could take 4-5 hours, whilst a more elaborate four-course meal for 8 could take seven or more hours.

If you are happy with these arrangements, we need to know if you would like the cook’s services, to book her well ahead of time. Fiora may have other commitments, so we cannot always guarantee that she will be free. We would therefore be grateful if you could ask for and complete the questionnaire and return it to us as soon as possible.

Shopping

We suggest you shop en route for ‘basics’ and food for breakfast for Sunday and Monday mornings. However, if you are arriving late (planes can be delayed), and bearing in mind that most shops are closed on Sundays in Italy, we suggest you order a full Food Hamper.

Notes

Please bear in mind that the arrangements outlined above are an extra goodwill service organized by CV Travel, who cannot guarantee that the cook will always be able to prepare meals as requested. Should the cook become unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances, you will be refunded CV’s booking fee
Maid service

2 hours, 5 days a week

Linen Change

Provided once per week on Saturday.  Extra changes available on request for an additional charge

Destination introduction

Those seeking relaxation will find it in abundance amid the tranquillity of Umbria's rolling hills, covered with vines and olives, cypresses, pines, oaks and chestnut trees. It is here where a wide variety of our selected villas are discreetly hidden. For those wishing to combine relaxation with day trips to towns and villages or more active pursuits, Umbria offers a wide choice. From Etruscan through Roman, mediaeval and Renaissance times, the region contains a wealth of evidence of its varied past.

An easy drive from Rome, Pisa or Perugia, Southern Umbria's hill top towns dominate the green countryside. One of our favourite hill towns is Orvieto with its beautiful mosaic fronted cathedral, cobbled streets, good restaurants and twice-weekly market, making it a popular choice for day trips with guests staying in our nearby villas. The hill town of Todi with its attractive historical centre, stunning piazza and breathtaking views draw weekend visitors from Rome and it is a good spot for an evening stroll and ice cream.‑

For those staying near the Lazio border, a day trip to Rome is a must. Home of the Vatican, the first stop for most visitors is the wealth of artistic treasures in its museums. There is too much to take in on one day but the Roman Forum and Colosseum are an easy walk from the central shopping streets, as well as the pretty cobbled streets of the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish steps and Piazza Navona.

Our fabulous collection of luxury villas in Umbria offer a fascinating range of styles and group sizes, perfect for small family get-togethers as well as larger groups.
