Set in a secluded hillside location just 9 km from Todi, La Vallata is furnished in comfortable, classic country style with antique pieces and interesting prints and drawings. All bedrooms are of a good size with en suite or private facilities. Most ground floor rooms open to terraces that extend the full length of the villa with shady furnished pergolas covereed in climbing roses and wisteria.

The gardens are laid to lawn with fragrant rosemary, aromatic lavender, roses and irises in spring. The views are simply magnificent, an idyllic panorama of Todi, distant farmhouses, towers and castles, forest and cornfields. The conservatory is an ideal spot to enjoy the view in cooler weather. Steps lead down through the terraced gardens to the pool with new gazebo and guest annexe. With churches, medieval civic buildings, piazza and classical music, Todi is one of central Italy's loveliest towns.

Shops are shut on Sundays, so the aim of the Food Hampers is to provide two light meals and two breakfasts, to allow guests to go out for one meal, then do more shopping on Monday. We can adapt these hampers to take into account allergies, dislikes and dietary requirements, or according to whether there are children in the party. For a list of possible ingredients, please see the CV Travel Directory.

Cook Service

The housekeeper, Maria, at La Vallata is also a good local cook, and you may book her services by filling in the cook questionnaire  She usually cooks in the afternoon/early evenings, (except on Sundays or Italian public holidays).  Maria is unable to work late so she will prepare meals at her home, in advance, for guests simply to heat up.   Under particular circumstances or by local arrangement, she may cook lunch instead of an evening meal.   She will shop for the meals she cooks.

Possible Options

a)  Three meals per week – Cost: €15 per hour per cook plus the cost of food, to be paid locally to the cook.

b)   One evening per week (eg. Saturday arrival meal, to be left for you)  -  Cost: €15 per hour per cook plus the cost of food, to be paid locally to the cook.

Please note that Maria can only cook for a maximum of four nights per week.

Prices and Booking

The cost of the cook service is €15 per hour per cook, to include time spent shopping, cooking and travelling.

We charge a one-off booking fee payable in advance of departure directly to CV Travel London.

If you are happy with these arrangements, we need to know very soon if you would like the cook’s services, to book her well ahead of time.  We would therefore be grateful if you could ask for and complete the cook questionnaire and return it to us as soon as possible so that she is informed well in time that you would like her to cook for your party. Please note that the cook service is not available on Sundays or on Public Holidays.

Shopping

We suggest you stop on the way to La Vallata and shop for ‘basics’ and food for breakfasts on Sunday and Monday morning.  Most shops will be closed on Sunday but there is one fair sized supermarket in Orvieto (Super Conti) which is open all day Sunday.  However, if you are arriving late (planes can be delayed), you may wish to a order a Food Hamper (enough for two light meals, 2 breakfasts, plus ‘basics’ - see the Travel Directory in the CV Italy brochure).

Note

This is a goodwill service on the part of CV Travel, and that the arrangements outlined cannot be conditional on the booking either prior to or during the holiday.  However should your cook become unavailable, you will be re-imbursed CV’s booking fee.

Destination introduction

Those seeking relaxation will find it in abundance amid the tranquillity of Umbria's rolling hills, covered with vines and olives, cypresses, pines, oaks and chestnut trees. It is here where a wide variety of our selected villas are discreetly hidden. For those wishing to combine relaxation with day trips to towns and villages or more active pursuits, Umbria offers a wide choice. From Etruscan through Roman, mediaeval and Renaissance times, the region contains a wealth of evidence of its varied past.

An easy drive from Rome, Pisa or Perugia, Southern Umbria's hill top towns dominate the green countryside. One of our favourite hill towns is Orvieto with its beautiful mosaic fronted cathedral, cobbled streets, good restaurants and twice-weekly market, making it a popular choice for day trips with guests staying in our nearby villas. The hill town of Todi with its attractive historical centre, stunning piazza and breathtaking views draw weekend visitors from Rome and it is a good spot for an evening stroll and ice cream.‑

For those staying near the Lazio border, a day trip to Rome is a must. Home of the Vatican, the first stop for most visitors is the wealth of artistic treasures in its museums. There is too much to take in on one day but the Roman Forum and Colosseum are an easy walk from the central shopping streets, as well as the pretty cobbled streets of the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish steps and Piazza Navona.

Our fabulous collection of luxury villas in Umbria offer a fascinating range of styles and group sizes, perfect for small family get-togethers as well as larger groups.
