Le Querce

Sleeps up to: 8

Guests staying at Le Querce enjoy its rural and secluded position. Its proximity to the delightful walled mediaeval town of Lucignano, gives them a real flavour of this unspoilt part of Tuscany.

Le Querce has a lovely feel about it, and its ‘home from home’ comfort very much reflects its delightful owner, who visits her home in Italy frequently.

Dating from the 17th Century, this cosy and intimate house has been comfortably furnished in traditional, elegant Italian style with many paintings and antiques from the owner’s family home. We particularly like the two separate sitting areas – the summer sitting room with windows opening onto the garden, and the first floor study/sitting area with log fire, ideal for autumn evenings. This is also a quiet haven for relaxation.

Le Querce is very private, with a lovely well maintained garden and woodlands. Guests will enjoy whiling away soporific days at the lovely pool area with covered dining area, barbecue, shower, loo and kitchenette - ideal for long lunches followed by long siestas.

There is a large kitchen and breakfast table, and Le Querce’s highly praised cook/housekeeper will prepare good Tuscan food for her guests.

Located in rural countryside, Le Querce is only a short drive from the fast road to Siena and Florence and within easy distance of the major sights and wine growing areas of Tuscany and northern Umbria as well as the less frequented hill towns and famous vineyards of Southern Tuscany such as Pienza, Montalcino, Montepulciano. A highly recommended holiday home.

For the remaining time she can cook lunch or prepare and leave an evening meal.  If you require her to shop for your meals, this time will be deducted from the six hours or you will be asked to pay her extra. Also, please note that while Barbara is very willing to cook extra meals for you (lunch as well as leaving an evening meal), this is not included in your rent, and you should pay her an hourly extra charge – she will tell you the amount.

Destination introduction

It is to the panoramic open agricultural landscapes of the 'senese', the area of Tuscany south of Siena where many return. Delight in sampling the local wines in 'enoteche' of the wine centres of Montalcino and Montepulciano, enjoy the classic vistas from Pope Pius II's Renaissance jewel, Pienza or bathe in the thermal springs at Bagno Vignoni with its view over abandoned hill top fortifications. All these places are easily accessible from one of our villas in the ever changing landscape of the Val d'Orcia, and located not far from our villas at Cetona, an atmospheric and undiscovered jewel of a hill town, the retreat of the literary and artistic.

Dramatically placed on a hillside overlooking the valley of Valdichiana, with views of Lake Trasimeno and Monte Amiata, is the Tuscan hill town of Cortona. Whether it's a wander through the cobbled streets, a visit to the antiques market or a delicious al fresco meal in one of the trattorie, a visit to Cortona should not be missed as part of a Tuscan holiday.
