La Torre

Within walking distance of shops and restaurants in picturesque Cetona, this quirky 14th-Century tower must be one of our most delightful and unusual properties. With fabulous views from its terrace of rolling hills and the enchanting medieval Citta della Pieve perched on a hilltop, this intimate property is a perennial favourite and ideal honeymoon retreat.

Cetona is a very beautiful and relatively undiscovered hill town which we have been recommending to our clients for some years. Narrow winding cobbled streets with enchanting glimpses of the green countryside lead to trattorias frequented not only by the local clientele as well as Romans who have long had country homes here nestling in the countryside. In Cetona it is easy to be absorbed into the truly Italian way of life, and even our most travelled Italophiles have loved their first time in this enchanting town.

La Torre enjoys the rare facility of enjoying privacy, and with spectacular countryside views, yet being only a few minutes walk from the bustling piazza. Its journalist owner has used her decorative flair in a clever, understated way, keeping the character of this 14th century home as well as making it more than comfortable for her guests.

La Torre, “tower” has been cleverly converted into a bedroom on each floor, accessed by open spiral stairs, the view from each floor getting better and more spectacular. Beautifully renovated, the fitted kitchen has cream marble work surfaces. The shaded loggia in the ‘main house’ leading off the sitting room provides a lovely area for dining al fresco and enjoying the view of the garden and valley. A long flight of stone steps lead down through the garden, to an attractive terrace area with sunbeds, next to a beautiful pool set in a garden area. Clients view the walk up to La Torre after a refreshing swim as all part of the enjoyment of this welcoming home. An unusual home for a couple, a group of young friends, or those with older children.

The owner has beautifully renovated an adjacent property La Torretta, an ideal guest annexe for a couple.

Private Swimming Pool

12m x 4m, 1.2m - 1.8m deep with built-in steps. The pool is open from mid May until mid September. Outside these dates, the pool can be opened on request for an extra charge.

Welcome Provisions Included

A welcome gesture to offer you a drink after your journey; tea or coffee and biscuits, wine or juice and a snack. They are not sufficient for an entire meal. Owners will also generally leave a few other items such as some salt, sugar, oil, bin bags and toilet paper.

Food Hamper

Can be arranged for an additional cost and service charge payable locally. For guests who are arriving late or who recognize they may be delayed and arrive with no time to do shopping. Shops are shut on Sundays, so the aim of the Food Hampers is to provide two light meals and two breakfasts, to allow guests to go out for one meal, then do more shopping on Monday. We can adapt these hampers to take into account allergies, dislikes and dietary requirements, or according to whether there are children in the party.

Cook Service

One of Cetona’s local cooks, who lives very close to La Torre, is very happy to cook good local food for clients going to La Torre. She would normally do the shopping for the meal, prepare some things at home, last-minute dishes at La Torre, and leave after having brought the second course to the table and having cleared the kitchen. She would not normally expect to work after 9.30 pm. She does not work on Sundays or Public Holidays, except  under very special circumstances. 

The cost of the cook service is 12 Euro per hour to include time spent shopping and travelling. As a guideline, please bear in mind that home cooking can take a long time, so a charge of 6 hours for a meal (depending on the number of people, how many courses, how complex, even how far the cook has to travel to get certain ingredients) may not  be considered excessive, though  usually, for a simple meal, the hours would be fewer. The cost of food would be added on to this.

The service is available on request. Booking Fee applicable. The cook cooks at other villas as well, and also has other work commitments so please inform us well in advance if you require her services.

If you are happy with these arrangements, we would be grateful if you could ask for and complete the cook questionnaire and return it to us as soon as possible, and we will find out if the cook is available to cook for you.
