Casetta di Pian di Goro

Sleeps up to: 8

With its stunning and inspirational views across the Val di Rigo, its colourful gardens, beautifully designed pool and all the comforts of a true home, Casetta di Pian di Goro is a very tempting destination.

A much loved family home, Casetta di Pian di Goro stands on a tranquil hillside in 10 hectares of land in the Parco Artistico Naturale e Culturale of the Val D’Orcia. The countryside in this unspoilt part of Southern Tuscany is outstandingly beautiful and the 270 degree views from the house, gardens and pool are truly superb, including Monte Cetona to the east, Monte Amiata to the west and the mediaeval hill towns of Celle sul Rigo and San Casciano dei Bagni.

This comfortable and welcoming house exudes peace and calm and is a perfect place to unwind. Restoration has been undertaken to a very high standard with the greatest attention to detail, including hand made terracotta floors, colour washed walls, comfortable antique furniture and good lighting. The wrought iron beds are all individually made by a local artisan, the bedrooms have spacious antique wardrobes and all the bathrooms are well equipped.

During the winter, cosy evenings can be spent either by the log fire downstairs or alternatively by the wood burning stove in the upstairs sitting room. Leading from the large kitchen/dining room is a spacious terrace where meals can be enjoyed under the shade of two large oak trees.

Charming gardens surround the house including a formal Italian garden which leads through arched hedges to the landscaped pool. With superb views within a formal hedged rose garden the pool is surrounded by hand made terracotta paving which provides plenty of space for sunbathing or lazing on the teak sunbeds and steamer chairs. Large umbrellas provide ample shade.

This delightful estate includes olive groves, open fields and woods and the area is full of wild life such as wild boar, porcupines, badgers, hares, owls and other birds of prey. A truly charming villa in our Italian programme.

b) The cook can prepare different courses for you, which you can then heat up yourselves. The cost of these courses vary according to ingredients used, but typically they might be (again, please reconfirm current prices on booking):

First course: 8 Euro per person,

Second course: 9 Euro per person

Destination introduction

It is to the panoramic open agricultural landscapes of the 'senese', the area of Tuscany south of Siena where many return. Delight in sampling the local wines in 'enoteche' of the wine centres of Montalcino and Montepulciano, enjoy the classic vistas from Pope Pius II's Renaissance jewel, Pienza or bathe in the thermal springs at Bagno Vignoni with its view over abandoned hill top fortifications. All these places are easily accessible from one of our villas in the ever changing landscape of the Val d'Orcia, and located not far from our villas at Cetona, an atmospheric and undiscovered jewel of a hill town, the retreat of the literary and artistic.

Dramatically placed on a hillside overlooking the valley of Valdichiana, with views of Lake Trasimeno and Monte Amiata, is the Tuscan hill town of Cortona. Whether it's a wander through the cobbled streets, a visit to the antiques market or a delicious al fresco meal in one of the trattorie, a visit to Cortona should not be missed as part of a Tuscan holiday.
