Casale di Reschio

Sleeps up to: 12

Set in the Tuscan hills between Cortona and Mercatale, this exquisite manor house is the ideal retreat for those wishing to enjoy idyllic and peaceful surroundings in extreme comfort.

Set within its own meadows and olive groves, a private lake and numerous woodland walks, it is still within easy reach of many of the major Tuscan and Umbrian towns.

Designed and renovated by a renowned interior designer, Casale di Reschio exudes sophistication and tranquility.

The villa enjoys lots of space both internally and above all externally. Large showers, wood beams, oak ceilings and stone doorways all assist in combining to create a unique, luxurious getaway.

The spacious kitchen/dining room, provides the latest equipment in elegant surroundings. Through two ancient Roman capitols you leave the kitchen and enter the large hall and from there, the double doors open onto an exquisite arched loggia. The huge table of reclaimed oak is a wonderful place to enjoy lunch and look down on the olive groves and the infinity pool below.

Each bedroom and bathroom is dedicated to comfort without losing any of the integral charm of this beautiful house. The bathrooms are characterized by the magnificent free standing baths, large walk-in showers, antique marble baths and the bedrooms by the four poster beds and antique furniture.

The drawing room, a large and extremely spacious room, is furnished with a graceful and understated style. The sofas are deep and comfortable and the supremely beautiful artifacts and paintings only add to the atmosphere. The study is charming and more intimate, and the upstairs galleried sitting room with sofas is another beautiful space to retreat from the world. From two of the first floor terraces you can see castles on the distant hilltops, and it is the ideal place to sip a bellini and drink in the atmosphere.

It is difficult not to be overwhelmed by the setting and the stunning far-reaching views to the distant hilltop villages and castles. The pool is set amongst the olive trees, sculpted into the grounds, with an infinity edge that disappears into the spectacular backdrop.

Surrounded by 34 hectares of its own land, all fenced to maintain the safety of the natural environment and the protection of the animals that live within the woods, it provides the perfect backdrop for the truly idyllic holiday.

Welcome Provisions Included

A welcome gesture to offer you a drink after your journey; tea or coffee and biscuits, wine or juice and a snack. They are not sufficient for an entire meal. Owners will also generally leave a few other items to get you going such as some salt, sugar, oil, bin bags and toilet paper.

Food Hamper

Can be arranged for an additional cost and service charge payable locally. For guests who are arriving late or who recognize they may be delayed and arrive with no time to do shopping. Shops are shut on Sundays, so the aim of the Food Hampers is to provide two light meals and two breakfasts, to allow guests to go out for one meal, then do more shopping on Monday. We can adapt these hampers to take into account allergies, dislikes and dietary requirements, or according to whether there are children in the party.

Cook Service

There are a couple of good cooks in the area who are willing to offer their occasional services to CV Travel clients. They normally like to cook good local dishes, and are usually available to cook evening meals. Sometimes, by arrangement, they will agree to cook lunch instead, or even as well.  They may prepare some things in their own kitchen, cooking other and last-minute dishes at Casale di Reschio.  Fees include time taken shopping, travelling, serving the first two courses and clearing up as much as possible in the kitchen.

Prices and Booking

The cook will charge 20 Euros per hour for her time, plus there will be the cost of food. Bear in mind that shopping and travelling take up quite a long time. As a very rough indication, a simple three-course meal for 6 people could take 5 hours, whilst a more elaborate four-course meal for 10 could even take nine hours.

CV Travel charges booking fee payable in advance to CV Travel London.

If you are happy with these arrangements, we need to know if you would like a cook's services, to book her well ahead of time. The cooks all have various commitments, and we cannot guarantee availability.  We would therefore be grateful if you could ask for and complete the cook questionnaire and return it to us as soon as possible.  (Please note that the cook service is not usually available on Sundays or on Public Holidays, though exceptions might be made for special occasions).

Shopping

We suggest you stop on the way to Casale di Reschio and shop for ‘basics’ and food for breakfast for Sunday and Monday mornings.  Most shops will be closed on Sunday, though in the height of summer (last week July, first two weeks August), the large COOP supermarket in Umbertide (25 mins away) should be open for a few hours on Sunday morning. There may also be other shops open on a Sunday, but nothing is certain. If you are arriving late (planes can be delayed), we recommend you order a Food Hamper to tide you over the weekend (See the Travel Directory of the Italy Brochure)

Note

Please bear in mind that the arrangements outlined above are an extra goodwill service organized by CV Travel, who cannot guarantee that the cook will always be able to prepare meals as requested. Should the cook become unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances, you will be refunded CV’s booking fee.

Destination introduction

It is to the panoramic open agricultural landscapes of the 'senese', the area of Tuscany south of Siena where many return. Delight in sampling the local wines in 'enoteche' of the wine centres of Montalcino and Montepulciano, enjoy the classic vistas from Pope Pius II's Renaissance jewel, Pienza or bathe in the thermal springs at Bagno Vignoni with its view over abandoned hill top fortifications. All these places are easily accessible from one of our villas in the ever changing landscape of the Val d'Orcia, and located not far from our villas at Cetona, an atmospheric and undiscovered jewel of a hill town, the retreat of the literary and artistic.

Dramatically placed on a hillside overlooking the valley of Valdichiana, with views of Lake Trasimeno and Monte Amiata, is the Tuscan hill town of Cortona. Whether it's a wander through the cobbled streets, a visit to the antiques market or a delicious al fresco meal in one of the trattorie, a visit to Cortona should not be missed as part of a Tuscan holiday.
