Bosco dei Tartufi

Sleeps up to: 10

Set high in the wooded hills above the historical town of Cortona, this restored and ancient farm provides a great location for those who wish to enjoy peaceful, unspoilt, yet interesting surroundings in great comfort.

As one drives down to the property you can’t help feeling a sense of anticipation: turning into a gloriously open space surrounded by trees and ultimately your holiday home, it is difficult not to be overwhelmed by the setting and the stunning, far reaching views to the distant mountains. Surrounded by 62 hectares of its own land, there is a glorious walk through the woodland to one of the most spectacular views in Tuscany overlooking Lake Trasimeno.

The swimming pool, sculpted into the grounds and set in to the side of the hill, is designed in a way whereby the edge simply “disappears”, into a spectacular backdrop providing the ultimate panorama. Its interior designer owner, with both inside and alfresco living in mind has exquisitely and sensitively restored the house.

Whilst remaining sympathetic to its natural environment, it is a house imbued with a sophisticated yet “comfortable” ambience, and furnished throughout with beautiful, inviting sofas and armchairs, antiques, artefacts, all softened with warm rugs and cushions. The sitting room is smart and spacious, the study with fireplace intimate and cosy, bedrooms spoiling and comfortable, bathrooms characterised by their magnificent free standing old-fashioned bathtubs, two large walk-in showers and spectacular tuscan stone sinks. The spacious kitchen/dining room acts as the social hub of the house; a well equipped and attractive living space which leads onto a covered terrace with a dining table set in a position to enjoy long, lazy evenings whilst enjoying the spectacular views of the hills.

With its two independent cottages within metres from the main house, it is perfect accommodation for family gatherings, or an adult group (most comfortable for a maximum of four couples) who may appreciate the opportunity for their own space. A highly recommended property and early booking is advisable.

A Travel Agent has commented

Here's a very nice note from our client who have recently returned from Bosco dei Tartufi. There were a lot of questions but you dealt with them totally professionally,

"I'm writing this note after returning to the States a few days ago, but in my heart I'm still in Italy...and at Bosco dei Tartufi.  Maybe I forever will be.

I've rented properties for years, with many pleasant or exemplary experiences...but this experience defies me to come up with superlatives appropriate to match it.  The property was spectacular, the home well cared for, the lighting soft and indirect, the arrangements impeccable.  The stocking of the home and larder, the daily maid service, the Italian car rental and the masterful....cook were beyond my expectations, and we so appreciated every detail, every nuance.  It made my 50th birthday celebration into a new beginning.

.... You anticipated all our needs, you suggested great side trips (Orvieto) and you made this an amazing adventure.  This was the trip of a lifetime, and I hope I return to Bosco dei Tartufi, soon."

"The villa is absolutely gorgeous. Perfect."

"A great holiday."

Welcome Provisions Included

A welcome gesture to offer you a drink after your journey; tea or coffee and biscuits, wine or juice and a snack. They are not sufficient for an entire meal. Owners will also generally leave a few other items such as some salt, sugar, oil, bin bags and toilet paper.

Food Hamper

Can be arranged for an additional cost and service charge payable locally. For guests who are arriving late or who recognize they may be delayed and arrive with no time to do shopping. Shops are shut on Sundays, so the aim of the Food Hampers is to provide two light meals and two breakfasts, to allow guests to go out for one meal, then do more shopping on Monday. We can adapt these hampers to take into account allergies, dislikes and dietary requirements, or according to whether there are children in the party.

Cook Service

You may wish to avail yourself of the services of a cook while you are on holiday, allowing yourself the luxury of not having to prepare a meal, but at the same time not having to drive back from a restaurant in the dark (and being able to drink as much as you please!).

There are a couple of good cooks in the area who are willing to offer their occasional services to CV Travel clients. They normally like to cook good local dishes, and are usually available to cook evening meals. Sometimes, by arrangement, they will agree to cook lunch instead, or even as well.  They  may prepare some things in their own kitchen, cooking other and last-minute dishes at Il Bosco dei Tartufi.  Fees include time taken shopping, travelling, serving the first two courses and clearing up as much as possible in the kitchen.

Booking

Booking fee applicable and payable in advance of departure directly to CV Travel London.

The cook will charge €12 per hour for her time, plus there will be the cost of food. Bear in mind that shopping and travelling take up quite a long time. As a very rough indication, a simple three-course meal for 6 people could take 5 hours, whilst a more elaborate four-course meal for 10 could even take nine hours.

If you are happy with these arrangements, we need to know if you would like a cook's services, to book her well ahead of time. The cooks all have various commitments, and we cannot guarantee availability.  We would therefore be grateful if you could ask for and complete the attached questionnaire and return it to us as soon as possible.  (Please note that the cook service is not usually available on Sundays or on Public Holidays, though exceptions might be made for special occasions).

Prices

a)  Full cook service of 6 evening meals a week, plus a light meal left for the Sunday

Cost: € 12 per hour, plus the cost of food, all to be paid locally to the cook.

b)  Three or four evening meals per week –  not Sunday

Cost: €12 per hour, plus the cost of food, all to be paid locally to the cook.

c)  One evening per week (e.g. Saturday evening meal, plus a light meal for the Sunday, both left for you) at  €12 per hour, plus the cost of food, to be paid locally to the cook

Shopping

We suggest you stop on the way and shop for ‘basics’ and food for breakfast for Sunday and Monday mornings.  Most shops will be closed on Sunday, though in the height of summer, the large COOP supermarket in Camucia (25 mins away) should be open for a few hours on Sunday morning. There may also be other shops open on a Sunday, but nothing is certain. If you are arriving late (planes can be delayed), we recommend you order a Food Hamper to tide you over the weekend (See the Travel Directory of the Italy Brochure)

Note

Please bear in mind that the arrangements outlined above are an extra goodwill service organized by CV Travel, who cannot guarantee that the cook will always be able to prepare meals as requested. Should the cook become unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances, you will be refunded CV’s booking fee.

Destination introduction

It is to the panoramic open agricultural landscapes of the 'senese', the area of Tuscany south of Siena where many return. Delight in sampling the local wines in 'enoteche' of the wine centres of Montalcino and Montepulciano, enjoy the classic vistas from Pope Pius II's Renaissance jewel, Pienza or bathe in the thermal springs at Bagno Vignoni with its view over abandoned hill top fortifications. All these places are easily accessible from one of our villas in the ever changing landscape of the Val d'Orcia, and located not far from our villas at Cetona, an atmospheric and undiscovered jewel of a hill town, the retreat of the literary and artistic.

Dramatically placed on a hillside overlooking the valley of Valdichiana, with views of Lake Trasimeno and Monte Amiata, is the Tuscan hill town of Cortona. Whether it's a wander through the cobbled streets, a visit to the antiques market or a delicious al fresco meal in one of the trattorie, a visit to Cortona should not be missed as part of a Tuscan holiday.
