Poggio al Leccio

Sleeps up to 10

Magnificently situated on a hill in the stunning Valle d’Ombrone, Poggio al Leccio enjoys spectacular views over the Monte Amiata, the mountain sacred to the ancient Etruscans. This beautiful property traces its origins back to at least the seventeenth century and is located almost precisely half-way between Siena and Grosseto in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma.

Poggio al Leccio has been the much-loved holiday home for a Tuscan family for some time and this is evident to the visitor in the standard of furnishings and decoration. Antique Italian wooden furniture abounds, offset perfectly by whitewashed walls to give a classical, cool and uncluttered feel to the house.

The bedrooms are generously proportioned and very comfortable, three of which benefit from an en-suite bathroom. There is a huge kitchen which is well equipped and has a large open hearth.

Outside, there are 5 acres of manicured lawns, olive groves, shady woodland and a wisteria-draped pergola to explore.

The private pool also has shady areas around it, as well as sun loungers. There is a wood-fired pizza oven and plenty of options for al fresco eating, giving every opportunity to capitalise on the breath-taking views.

A husband and wife team ensure the smooth running of the house, providing the option of excellent freshly-prepared meals (at an extra cost) as well as a maid service. The couple live discretely in an adjoining cottage and have a separate entrance, ensuring privacy for guests.

Destination introduction

Staying in a villa near the artistic centres of Florence and Siena as well as being within easy reach of the wild and beautiful coastline of Tuscany is just the answer for a full Tuscan experience. Monte Argentario, reached by a causeway from the ancient Roman town of Orbetello, is home to the lively Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole which are great places to eat out, admire the glamorous yachts or take a boat trip to the lovely Isola del Giglio. Our villas situated on the hilly landscape which extends inland from the sea offer views to the coast which are truly breathtaking.
