Capo d'Uomo

Sleeps up to: 12

Perched high up, on the edge of a privately owned peninsula, the house seems to grow out of the rocks which plunge down to the Mediterranean. With its heated pool and fantastic views looking out over the sea to the island of Giglio (and Corsica on a clear day), Capo D’Uomo provides the ultimate holiday retreat. There is also an excellent cook who can provide traditional Tuscan specialities.

The distinguished owner of Capo D’Uomo had a very fixed idea when he was looking for somewhere to buy many years ago. He found a perfect place where he has successfully cultivated a working estate. Capo D’Uomo sits within the 50 hectares of this stunning landscape, thick with vines and olive trees and blessed with the everchanging views of the sea. Dedicated to the Monte Argentario region, this owner’s continuing passion and personal interest has encouraged the rebirth of local farming activity to co-exist in harmony with the inevitable face of tourism, very strictly controlled in the Monte Argentario. Spread across two levels of large, spacious traditional terracing, the property provides modern stylish accommodation in a unique, unspoilt location which would appeal to those looking for undisturbed, peaceful surroundings.

The hexagonal shaped main building houses the sitting/dining room with access through to a well-equipped modern kitchen, with stainless steel surfaces, large ovens and huge, American style fridges. Air-conditioned guest accommodation, each with bathroom or shower rooms en suite, fridges and telephones in all rooms, provides ultimate comfort. An unobtrusive caretaker couple ensure all needs are attended to. Outside, a sophisticated ‘alfresco dining room’ serves as a pleasant shaded area from the heat of the day, whilst truly coming into its own at night with romantic views to a starlit sky, waves lapping on the rocks and Giglio island romantically silhouetted against the horizon. Whatever the time of day we consider this a perfect position to enjoy a refreshing glass of white wine from the owner’s personal cantina and more importantly from the vines you see in front of you.

There is a a private beach club (open from beginning of June to mid-October) a 3 minute drive away. Here you can swim off rocks in the sea and follow it with a fantastic lunch in the club restaurant. A truly exceptional property in a spectacular location. Early reservations recommended.

Cook Service

The housekeeper, is also a very good local cook.  She usually prefers to cook in the evenings, but is also willing to cook light luncheons by arrangement. As it is difficult to find fresh food on a Monday (there is usually no fish, and even the butcher does not have a great choice), for the sake of a consistently high standard she is prepared to cook from Tuesday to Saturday, and will leave something light for you to eat cold or heat up for the Sunday, if you are staying two weeks or more. Exceptionally, she is even willing to cook fully on a Sunday for a special occasion. For the arrival weekend, since she will have been cleaning the villa for changeover, she will cook a light supper to leave for you to eat cold or heat up as required, and come to cook a full meal on the Sunday. She will do the shopping for the meals, maybe prepare some dishes at home, cook, serve up to the second course, clear up in the kitchen and then leave you to enjoy the rest of the meal in peace. Sometimes, especially if there are larger groups, she will have a friend to help her.

She charges 15 Euros per hour (also to be paid to her friend when she comes to help), to include time taken shopping and travelling. The cost of the food is extra, and should be reimbursed each day please (she will give you receipts whenever possible- some fishermen don't give receipts!).

The cook service is available on request. Booking fee applicable.  If you are happy with these arrangements, we need to know as soon as possible if you would like her services, to book her well ahead of time.  Please ask for and complete the cook questionnaire and return it to us as soon as possible.  Please note that the cook service is not usually available on Public Holidays.

Destination introduction

Staying in a villa near the artistic centres of Florence and Siena as well as being within easy reach of the wild and beautiful coastline of Tuscany is just the answer for a full Tuscan experience. Monte Argentario, reached by a causeway from the ancient Roman town of Orbetello, is home to the lively Porto Santo Stefano and Porto Ercole which are great places to eat out, admire the glamorous yachts or take a boat trip to the lovely Isola del Giglio. Our villas situated on the hilly landscape which extends inland from the sea offer views to the coast which are truly breathtaking.
