Casa Foscolo

Sleeps up to: 8

Casa Foscolo is a village house in a small hillside village dating back to the 18th Century. It has now been brought into the present day with contemporary interiors and modern comforts making it a wonderful holiday home.

Situated in the Lunigiana, an area of Tuscany which remains relatively untouched by tourism, Casa Foscolo is a village house with views of olive groves, vineyards and fruit trees and wonderful views towards the mountains in the distance.

The property is furnished and decorated in contemporary style using neutral colours of beige, black and white with wooden flooring and beamed ceilings. The entrance hall leads to a comfortable sitting room with attractive dark green leather sofas and further tables and sitting area.

There is also a sunny dining room and a well-equipped kitchen with stainless steel fittings and marble work surfaces and sinks. The three bedrooms at first floor level all have adjacent or en suite bathrooms and also all decorated in this smart contemporary style with state of the art white fittings and black mosaic tiling. The kitchen opens onto a large terrace, with brick built barbecue, exterior lighting and dining furniture, the perfect spot for long lazy lunches or candlelight dinners. Steps lead down from here to the swimming pool and pool terrace with ample sun furniture set within a Japanese style garden. A further double bedroom suite with sitting area and shower room opens out to the pool terrace.

The nearby medieval town of Fivizzano offers food shops and some excellent restaurants. In the warmer months, guests can enjoy food festivals in nearby villages or enjoy hill walking. The villages of the Ligurian coast are within very easy reach. There is a magical quality to this property with its hilltop setting and atmospheric surrounding Tuscan countryside.

Destination introduction

Lucca is an enchanting Tuscan town, a tiny gem encircled by massive walls. These walls fronted by lawns with trees, enclose a centre of atmospheric medieval streets and towers, well-preserved Romanesque churches and palazzi. Irresistible food shops, often with Liberty signs, wood pannelling and beautiful tiles offer delicious seasonal fare. Strolling through the historic centre, pausing at old-fashioned boutiques, cafes, pastry shops and visiting churches and museums is a real pleasure. Lucca's classic dishes reflect the city's wealth, torta di erbe is a Renaissance vegetable pie studded with pine nuts and raisins, fragrant with spices that only the rich could afford.

A visit to Tuscany would not be complete without visiting Pisa's famous Leaning Tower. Exploring the centre by bicycle is fun and easy but a a stroll through Pisa's streets will give you a true flavour of this Tuscan town.

A little known region of Tuscany which borders onto Liguria is the Lunigiana, known for the beauty of its mountains and an old-fashioned pace of life. Extending from the Apennines to the mouth of the Magra river, the Lunigiana is rich in mediaeval history: castles, Romanesque churches and ancient villages of extraordinary beauty dot the landscape. The coast and the pretty villages of the Cinque Terre with their superb walking trails are also within easy reach for interesting day trips.
