Hotel Le Fontanelle

Boutique hotel

Cradled in the heart of the ‘Chianti Classico’ region of Tuscany, and just 17 kilometres from the tantalizing city of Siena, Le Fontanelle dates back at least to the thirteenth century.

Since that time the building has served various purposes including that of convent and farmhouse, and the name derives from the ancient water fountains and cisterns used for gathering spring water. Today this handsome and atmospheric building is a luxury hotel where Tuscan tradition is implicit in every aspect, and where respect is shown for the environment and the preservation of heritage. Contemporary expectations are more than adequately met, however, by the facilities provided. Elegance and luxury of a robust type totally compatible with the building’s history result in a warmly welcoming and very comfortable establishment of impeccable interiors, exquisite gardens and terraced lawns overlooking still, serene Tuscan views. Most of the rooms have private terraces or gardens from which to enjoy the views in peace. The fine restaurant serves food appropriately based on Tuscan cuisine, in which the hotel’s own produce plays an important role. In addition to the outdoor swimming pool there is a heated indoor pool, with the benefit of a selection of fitness and spa facilities.

Destination introduction

Chianti is perhaps the best known of all Tuscany's varied panoramas. Located between Siena and Florence and known above all for its good wine, Chianti is dotted with pretty hill top towns and villages, green hills, undulating rows of vines, olive groves and swathes of pine and ancient oak. A perfect base for sightseeing, countryside pursuits and shopping trips.

Siena is high on the list of day trips for CV Travellers in Tuscany as it is brimming with beauty, culture, Renaissance art and architecture.  Highly recommended is a visit to the central piazza or 'Campo', the location of the famous Palio horse race, it's colourful cathedral, pretty shops and excellent restaurants.
