Baglio Modica

Sleeps up to: 10

A traditional Sicilian farmstead, nestling in a rural landscape of citrus groves, olives and almond trees. Beautifully restored to a high standard in an inviting country style with two pools, air-conditioning and a 42" plasma satellite TV. Within easy reach of the Baroque towns of South-Eastern Sicily.

Dating back to the end of the 16th century, this Sicilian farmstead in east Sicily, is within easy driving distance of the Baroque towns of Modica, Noto, Scicli, Ragusa Ibla and the ceramics centre of Caltagirone.

The property is set on top of a hill with views over the surrounding landscape of cornfields, carob trees and dry stone walls with the sea in the distance. Recently restored, this property comprises the main house and an adjacent watch tower. There is also a particularly beautiful courtyard, paved with local stone and with a small swimming pool and furnished with garden furniture.

The interiors of both the main house and the tower are furnished in inviting country style with beamed ceilings, and country furniture and coordinated furnishings in warm country colours. The kitchens have been tiled with pretty majolica tiles from the ceramics centre of Caltagirone.

At the rear of the property there is a second, large swimming pool with hydromassage and wooden decking with showers and changing rooms. The property is surrounded by an extensive garden with lawns, ancient olive trees, almond and citrus trees, jasmine and other shrubs.

Baglio Modica is a superb choice for a large group or families to explore this inviting corner of Sicily.

Destination introduction

One of the most dramatic coastlines on the Sicilian coast lies between Catania and Taormina, where the imposing volcano of Mount Etna towers over the little villages and beaches below. The coastline ascends to the magnificent peak of Mount Tauro where the exclusive and beautiful little town of Taormina is perched, with its Greek amphitheatre, attractive palazzi, shops and restaurants.

Further down the east coast is the attractive baroque town of Siracusa and beautiful sandy beaches. Round the south eastern side of the island is Modica, a unique and charming baroque town with pretty narrow streets in the historical centre.

Marsala is located on Sicily's western coast about 30 kilometers south of Trapani. The region is known for its beautiful cuisine, the blue sea and its fine grapes which make the fortified Marsala wine. Marsala's fish market is popular and beaches are within easy reach while nature reserves such as 'Lo Zingaro', between Palermo and Marsala, attract those looking to combine pleasant coastal walks and sea swimming.
