Hotel Aquadulci

Boutique hotel

The scenery in the southwest of Sardinia is quite stunning, with beaches that have more than a hint of the Caribbean magic about them. Thirty-metre high, white sand dunes and clear, turquoise water characterise the bay of Chia, where flamingos are often to be seen on the lake. Age-old junipers, fragrant maquis and pine forests make the perfect backdrop for some impressive archaeological sites, and are most attractive for walkers, while lovers of scuba diving, snorkelling and surfing will find ideal conditions here.

The Aquadulci Hotel is perfectly situated for a very relaxed holiday in these tranquil, natural surroundings. The textures and subtle tones of wood, terracotta and stone help to make the low-rise building blend into its setting, its colours and contours harmonising with the sculptural forms of the landscape. Each of the guest rooms is different in its decoration, but all conform to the pared-down principles of minimalism, with just the right amount of colour and the essential requirements for a comfortable stay, such as air-conditioning and satellite TV. Regional and national cuisine is well represented at the hotel’s restaurant, with fresh seafood featuring regularly.

When it comes to exploring this intriguing, pleasingly ‘un-touristy’ region, there is plenty to see, by bike, on horseback, or with a 4-wheel drive. Walking the trails through the sand dunes and fields is a fascinating experience, while playing a round of golf at the nearby courses, or just total relaxation by the pool or on the beach are all good options.

There is something very different and just a little mysterious about this corner of Sardinia – something that perhaps is linked to the fact that here the island reaches out to Africa – with Tunisia just 108 miles away.
