San Donato

Sleeps up to: 8

A fantastic addition to the CV Italy villa portfolio, San Donato is a beautifully restored tufo stone villa set high up in the Lazio hills looking out towards Lake Bolsena within easy reach of the neighbouring regions of Tuscany and Umbria.

Built over one hundred years ago, San Donato is a beautifully restored villa that in the Etruscan region of Northern Lazio. Surrounded by ten acres of olives, sunflowers and cypress trees the house sits atop a hill and benefits from superb views. Recently refurbished to the highest standard and furnished with a mix of antique and contemporary furniture, the villa provides comfort, space and elegnat surroundings for up to eight guests.

Modern Travertine marble bathrooms and shower rooms complement the high ceilings, hand made tiles and chesnut beams that have been used throughout the house. A feature of the property is the loggia that runs across the whole of the rear of the property providing the perfect setting for shady outdoor dining as well as a seating area from which to gaze out towards Bolsena and the lake.

Time spent on holiday at San Donato can be spent simply relaxing in the shade of a two hundred year old oak tree or visiting the well known towns of Orvieto, Bolsena and Montefiascone which are less than a half an hours drive away. A short drive takes you to one of Europe's cleanest lakes where one can swim, sail or enjoy a meal of fresh fish.

Food Hamper

Can be arranged for an additional cost and service charge payable locally. For guests who are arriving late or who recognize they may be delayed and arrive with no time to do shopping. Shops are shut on Sundays, so the aim of the Food Hampers is to provide two light meals and two breakfasts, to allow guests to go out for one meal, then do more shopping on Monday. We can adapt these hampers to take into account allergies, dislikes and dietary requirements, or according to whether there are children in the party.

Cook Service

Clients going to Villa San Donato can avail themselves of the services of Ercole, an excellent cook, who enjoys preparing meals for guests.  He will shop for and prepare up to one meal a day.  His duties include laying the table, serving up to the second course, then allowing the guests to enjoy the rest of the meal in peace, while he clears up in the kitchen and departs. Usually the cook does not work later than 9.30 pm, neither does he work on Sundays or Bank Holidays.

This service is subject to availability so please inform us well in advance if you require his services.

Options

a)  Full cook service of 6 evening meals per week  –  Mon-Sat, plus a light luncheon left for the Sunday.  Cost 420 Euros per week, plus the cost of food, to be paid locally to the cook.

OR

b) 3 evening meals per week – Cost 210 Euros per week, plus the cost of food, to be paid locally to the cook.

c)  Arrival Weekend: Saturday evening meal, plus a light luncheon left for the Sunday – Cost 100 Euros, plus the cost of food, to be paid locally to the cook.

Shopping

The cook cannot shop for non-food items or drinks, except arrival night drinks if ordered.  We suggest you stop on the way to Villa San Donato and shop for ‘basics’ and food for breakfast on Sunday morning.  Most shops will be closed on Sunday, though there is one fair sized supermarket in Orvieto, if you come from that direction (Super Conti), open all day on Sundays.  However, if you are arriving late (planes can be delayed), you may wish also to order a full Food Hamper (enough for two light meals, 2 breakfasts, plus ‘basics’). A Food Hamper must be booked before departure.

Prices and Booking

We charge a one-off booking fee of £20 for a single meal or £50 for any more than one meal in a week. This is payable in advance of departure directly to CV Travel London.

If you are happy with these arrangements, we need to know as soon as possible if you would like the cook’s services, to book him well ahead of time.  We would therefore be grateful if you could ask for and complete the cook questionnaire and return it to us within 5 working days of receipt so that he is informed well in time that you would like him to cook for your party.

Note

This is a goodwill service on the part of CV Travel, and that the arrangements outlined  cannot be conditional on the booking either prior to or during the holiday. However, should your cook become unavailable, you will be reimbursed CV Travel's booking fee.

Destination introduction

With the historic and fascinating city of Rome at its heart, a trip to Lazio is a must for those looking for a region in Italy which offers diversity.
Lazio is a fascinating region which continues to entice travellers. From its beautiful and fertile hills and lakes in the north to its long coastline and the stunning national park of Circeo in the south with its sandy and rocky beaches, the region is a popular destination for summer travellers.

Northern and Southern Italy meet in Italy's beautiful capital city of Rome. Home of the Vatican, the first stop for most visitors is the wealth of artistic treasures in its museums. There is too much to take in on one day but the Roman Forum and Colosseum are an easy walk from the central shopping streets, as well as the pretty cobbled streets of the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish steps and Piazza Navona.
