Il Palazzetto

Sleeps up to: 2

An architecturally outstanding apartment, with light streaming through its huge windows/doors, leads to a large terrace. The large vaulted bedroom, has a luxury en suite bathroom with a hydro massage bath and shower. A most romantic place to stay for two, although there is a sofa-bed in the sitting room for a third person; dining on the terrace at night under a starlit sky, is a magical experience.

The sheer pleasure of arriving at Il Palazzetto, combined with the almost theatrical dreamlike quality of this fabulously pretty, sun drenched town, is an experience not to be forgotten. Majestically overlooking an ever changing panorama, this delightful place is recommended for a romantic break in a beautiful corner of Italy. The 2 apartments of Bella Sponda and Il Palazzetto started their life in the late 1800’s as the first hotel in the then undiscovered town of Positano – then a small, rustic fishing village between Sorrento and Amalfi. Bought by the present owners after the first World War, this beautiful building has been remodelled and transformed into lovely, private apartments to complement todays lifestyle expectations and comforts – yet without losing the unique sense of being in a historic home in the vibrant southern Italy.

Featured in magazines such as Architectural Digest, its owners, renowned designers of theatre and costumes for opera and film, have simply directed their artistic talents and energy into this lovely building. Vaulted ceilings, spacious rooms furnished with contemporary and antique furniture, huge dramatic windows leading to sensational balconies are just some of the outstanding features. With sunbathing, beach, boating, boutiques and fabulous restaurants all within walking distance, it is ideal just to “stay put”, or as part of a more extended Italian holiday.

Destination introduction

Dividing the two Gulfs of Naples and Salerno is the appealing Sorrentine peninsula, home to the characteristic town of Sant’Agata sui due Golfi, the only place on the coast where there are panoramic views of both gulfs, with beautiful views of Vesuvius.  At the tip of the Sorrentine peninsula is the pretty town of Sorrento; the nearest point on the mainland to the island of Capri.

South of Sorrento is the Amalfi coast, one the most stunning coastlines in the whole Mediterranean, where deep mountains simply plunge into the sea. The sensational, windy coast road bypasses picturesque villages which cling to the rocks and slope down to delightful beaches – each more beautiful then the last.  And it is village of Positano where we are lucky enough to have some unique and special rental properties.  Intersected by a network of steep little alleyways, boutiques and restaurants, they hide distinctive houses clinging to the rocks, graced with wide terraces, and cascading flowers, all leading down to the main piazza and beach – with the dome of the church of Santa Maria Assunta always predominant.

Ischia is the largest of the three main islands in the stunning Bay of Naples, connected by short hydrofoil/ferry journeys from Naples and its neighbouring islands of Procida and Capri.  Ischia continues to delight hedonists looking to relax in the spas, swim from its sandy beaches and sample the island’s exceptional local seafood and Epomeo wine.
