The traditional stone architecture of the Southern Peloponnese lends itself beautifully to this handsome hillside villa with its panoramic views across the Gulf of Messinia and inland to the great Taygetos Mountains. Evenings here are unforgettable, with their dramatic sunsets and the slow descent of dusk over this historic landscape. Not only is the villa ideally situated for exploring the fascinating scenery and heritage of this perhaps less widely-known area of Greece, it is also only one and a half kilometres to two of the region’s wonderful sandy beaches. For many people this is the real Greece, rich in natural beauty and opportunities for rewarding exploration. With this kind of holiday in mind, the owners have furnished and equipped the villa to a high level of contemporary comfort, making it a house that is a perfect base for a holiday combining activity and relaxation. High ceilings and exposed stone walls are a cool setting for indoor living, but the swimming pool, set on a sunny terrace, cannot fail to be the focus of the endless summer days. An independent guest suite with its own TV and small fridge occupies the lower floor, and adds great flexibility to the sleeping arrangements.

Stoupa Introduction

Stoupa was once just a small fishing harbour, but its fine beaches, the best in the region, have made it a popular small holiday resort since the nineteen-eighties. Well-supplied with accommodation, shops, tavernas, bars and other useful facilities, it appeals very much to families, with its not unduly sophisticated and pleasantly informal atmosphere. A family holiday here need never become boring, with all the attractions of the superb beaches including water sports, and an excellent horse-riding centre nearby.

But Stoupa is not only about family holidays – it is the gateway to some wonderful opportunities for exploration of the magnificent scenery, on foot, by bike or car, and the ancient sites of Olympia, Sparta and Mistra are easily reached from here. The Mani is unique in the splendour of its scenery and in its architecture – fortified towers and Byzantine churches and chapels, some no bigger than a large beehive – and Stoupa is the ideal centre for the discovery of the area.
