Meganissi Introduction
Meganissi lies four nautical miles off the south east coast of Lefkada and is reached by daily ferry boat from Nidri. It is smaller than Paxos (only twenty square kilometres in area), - and a glance at the map will show you why it is beloved of yachtsmen, with its deeply indented coastline and sheltered bays. The colours of Meganissi are breathtaking, from the intense green of its wooded hillsides to the astonishing shades of blue and green that characterise its waters. With only two old villages, Katomeri and Spartahori and the small port of Vathy and a population of just over 1,200, life on Meganissi is unsophisticated and completely unspoilt – it is the Greek island of dreams. One road encircles the island and there is very little traffic and only one taxi – this is a paradise for walkers. Some of its glorious beaches cannot even be accessed on foot, and the visitor must take a boat – no hardship here, with stunning cliffs and caves alternating with quiet beaches. We recommend you take a camera and a spare memory card, comfortable walking shoes and a couple of books you always meant to read, and prepare to wind down and relax on Meganissi.
