Villa Gerasimos

Sleeps up to 6

There is something infinitely desirable about seafront villas in the Greek islands, especially when they overlook views such as those to be seen from Villas Artemis and Gerasimos. These two villas stand side by side on a rocky hillside covered in the natural rock garden of shrubs and herbs that is so typical of the Greek islands. Utterly modern in design and concept, they represent the new standards of Greek holiday villas: thoughtfully equipped and well located. It is just a five-minute drive to the very pleasant resort of Skala, with its sandy beaches, shops and excellent selection of restaurants and cafes.

Every room in this cool contemporary house is designed to make the most of the spectacular view, with big patio windows that open on to balconies and terraces. The ground floor living area is spacious and open-plan, furnished in cool neutral tones, totally uncluttered as befits a house dedicated to holiday relaxation. With one bedroom on this floor, there are another two bedrooms on the first floor, connected by a railed gallery that overlooks the lower floor. The outdoor areas are focused on the pleasures of the very unusual and pretty swimming pool, with its flight of steps descending directly into the sparkling water from the villa terrace. Paved sun terraces flank the pool, and there are gardens with lawns on either side. Outdoor meals are always an important part of a holiday in the sun, and Villa Gerasimos has a delightful, shaded outdoor dining area overlooking both pool and sea views.

Skala Introduction

The massive bulk of Mt. Aenos dominates the south of Kefalonia, its pine and olive-covered slopes meeting the intensely blue sea in a series of stunning sandy beaches. One of these is Skala, a popular resort with a satisfying variety of family-friendly facilities, not the least of which is the 3-km long beach bordered by pine groves. Well-equipped with the usual beach amenities  Skala is extensive enough to have some less-frequented stretches. There are other fantastic beaches in the vicinity – Kaminia and Mounda are noted as the breeding grounds of the loggerhead turtle – and Katelios , once a fishing village, that has maintained its low-key atmosphere and attracts visitors in search of a real Greek fish taverna meal. The long sandy beaches of southern Kefalonia provide ideal conditions for some exhilarating water sports, including the ever-popular inflatable rides, water-skiing  and diving, with parasailing, wakeboarding and kneeboarding high on the list of attractions.

Before tourism, this area was highly agricultural, and the countryside still rewards exploration. Flocks of sheep and goats roam the hillsides, and the traditional Greek crops abound. For a perfect combination of sun worshipping beach life and interesting walking and exploration, it would be hard to beat Southern Kefalonia
