St Thomas Beach House

Sleeps up to 4

A contemporary interpretation of a traditional cottage, built entirely of stone, this villa in Kefalonia occupies a wonderful setting, near the beach, at Agios Thomas, in the south of Kefalonia. One of a small group of exclusive, privately owned houses, St Thomas Beach House enjoys the most privacy and has inspiring views across 2 sandy beaches and the sea to Zakynthos. Furnished in a quietly traditional way but with up-to-date facilities including air conditioning, the villa has its own private pool and garden area and a terrace with stunning views. Agios Thomas is not by any means an over-developed area, and a holiday here is a simple, unsophisticated affair – one beach bar and a fish-taverna 5 minutes walk away on the beach itself. A couple more tavernas are to be found in the tiny but very pretty village of Karavados, just over a kilometre away, and some of the islands finest beaches, such as Trapezaki and Lourdas are in this area. With a sea like blue silk stretched before soaring white cliffs and overlooked by pine-covered mountain slopes, St Thomas Beach House makes an idyllic holiday choice.

Agios Thomas Introduction

The road from the village of Karavados down to Agios Thomas offers those who take it on foot one of those memorable Greek experiences – the opportunity to sit in a small paved square in the shade of the age-old plane trees, with the refreshing sound of water flowing into a nearby fountain. Just a short way further down is Agios Thomas, where a jutting rock divides the shore into two bays. One of these is sandy and can be quite busy, but a quieter beach is to be found a little further away. The other bay is rockier and forms natural pools like basins, while real sun-lovers will enjoy stretching out on the flat rocks.

This is a largely unspoiled area, backed by agricultural land, with olive groves and vineyards, pasture land and almond orchards. The villages are small and very traditional and a holiday here is an uncomplicated affair, with pleasant tavernas and bars and a perfectly relaxing atmosphere. Children will adore the shallow waters and sand and the chance to explore the rock pools.
