Kapsaliana Village Hotel

Not just one sympathetically restored old house but an entire village of them, complete with olive-press and small church – this is Kapsaliana Village Hotel, a small gem of a boutique hotel with masses of character and atmosphere. Set on an elevated slope of the White Mountains of Crete, it is extraordinarily peaceful and overlooks glorious views over the largest olive grove in Crete and out to sea. Guest rooms are located in the various buildings and display many of the visually pleasing features we associate with Greek village architecture – stone walls, floors and arches, wood-beamed ceilings, chunky locally made furniture. There is no lack of up-to-date comforts however, with en suite showers and Wi-Fi, music system and satellite TV, air-conditioning and heating.

With just 12 rooms and suites and a staff who only appear when they are wanted, guests are on the whole left in peace, meeting up at the charming swimming pool that is set amidst the olive trees on a white stone terrace surrounded by flowers, or in the sitting room where the dominant feature is the 18th century olive press.

The hotel restaurant is immensely attractive – incorporated into a large rustic kitchen with wooden tables and benches. Meals are strongly influenced by Cretan cuisine, using local organically-grown ingredients.

Much of the appeal of Kapsaliana lies in its seclusion, but beaches are only ten minutes drive away and the fascinating towns and villages of Crete are easily accessible.

Room Description

Standard Houses are either twin or double rooms and a shared terrace with chairs. Some rooms also have a fireplace. Vies are of the village square.

Superior Houses have a larger floor space, and can also be twin or double rooms. Some have fireplaces, and most have a private terracewith views over the village square or towards the sea.

Superior Suites have a separate sitting area, and some rooms are duplex. Beds can be twin or double, and there is a private terrace. Views can be of the gorge, the village or towards the sea.

Single House is a small room with a small double bed and view of the village.

Kapsaliana is at the heart of a very beautiful, and historically interesting area which offers plenty of opportunity for exploration, either on foot using a planned trekking route, or in the comfort of an excursion car.
