Kokkokila

Sleeps from 4 to 6

Kokkokila is a gem. It is a charming family home located in the hills above St Stephano and reached along a discreet little road winding through ancient olive groves to Kokkokilas village and beyond. Owned by one family for 22 years, this house stands out as a wonderful family home, very personal and cosy and beautifully decorated with interesting pieces brought from the owners’ travels along with a wide selection of books and paintings. Unmistakably Corfiot, the house dates back to 1740 but has been cleverly renovated in the local vernacular and with an emphasis on comfort and outdoor living. There are many lovely parts of the garden and terraces with quiet corners for sun or shade, perfect for quiet moments. And there is the outside dining area – ideal for friendly, al fresco dining provided by the dedicated private cook who has been with the family for six years. Sitting on the crest of a hill, the house is complemented by a stunning pool with wide views across the Ionian Sea. This is a unique and private spot, completely secluded and tranquil, an unspoilt Corfu truly still exists and Kokkokila is proof of this.

Kokkokilas & Porta Introduction

Kokkokilas is one of the ancient stone hamlets built high on the slopes of Mt Pantocrator, overlooking superb views of the sea and Albania. With long hours of sun, this is a landscape where olive groves give way to almond trees and occasional vineyards, scattered with the beehives from which the wonderful local honey is produced. This is real 'get-away-from-it-all' country, perfect for walking, but not by any means cut off - the amenities of St Stephano and Kassiopi are only a few minutes drive away. Couples and families alike will love the seclusion and space of this highland area, with its abundant wildlife.

Porta is a small mountain village where life remains largely unchanged. High on the uplands overlooking the northeast coast of Corfu, it is easily accessible by car but forms the starting point for some wonderful walks, some of them quite demanding and a test for serious ramblers. From here tracks radiate to connect the village with Rou, Nissaki and Kassiopi, leading to abandoned villages and quarries and revealing a Corfu that is still firmly entrenched in the past.
