Beach House

Sleeps 12

This celebrated house is one of the best properties for rental in north Wales.

The contemporary design echoes the property’s coastal location, with modern en suite wet rooms, open fires, state of the art kitchen, stylish conservatory and family games room. The general theme is ‘luxurious simplicity’, with cool clean lines and natural finishes such as stone, wood, glass and steel.

In the living room, guests can relax back into the two over sized leather sofas whilst enjoying  breathtaking coastal views out beyond the raised decked area. From here steps down to a separate, more informal area with a large Vibiefe  sofa, oak flooring and 50 inch TV with Blu-ray player and surround sound. The  high tech ‘In-House Zon' music system makes it possible to enjoy high quality  music anywhere in the house, with no limitations.

The Games Room is a relaxed and less formal area for playing Playstation 3, board games and for  watching TV or DVD's . It has a wall mounted 40 inch flat screen TV and surround  sound. There's a B&B Italia Charles Sofa, a design classic and a toughened  glass wall exposes a bespoke staircase leading to one of the bedrooms. The study features reading chairs by B&B Italia, a bespoke oak desk, a  table designed especially for the space and an arched ‘Twig' lamp. This is a place to read a book, write a postcard or relax and listen to music  while looking out across the bay.

The stylist Bulthaup kitchen features floor to ceiling units and a central  island. There is everything you could possibly need to make cooking effortless,  together with a wine store and a double oven by Wolf. The glass cube conservatory can be accessed directly from the kitchen and the  games room. The room's rustic table and benches means the space can also  function as the breakfast room and has lovely rural views. Foscarini Caboche glass wall lights illuminate the space. Dining Room

A solid oak table top sits on two large ‘T' shaped toughened glass bases to  give the feeling of floating drift wood. It seats 12 comfortably in ivory hide  chairs by Mario Bellini for Cassina. A central feature of the room is the lighting above the dining table made of  fine knitted copper wire. Sourced from Barcelona it is reminiscent of a fishing  net. Above the white high gloss Silenia sideboard are four original paintings,  their colours reflect the copper in the light and the turquoise of the sea. A feature wall of rough cut slate is to the left of a ribbon flame gas fire  raised and recessed into the chimney face. A Tom Dixon mirrored copper shade pendant provides the centre piece to the  glass, steel and oak staircase which sweeps down from the first floor into the dining room.

The bedrooms have  their own unique feel with luxurious individual fabrics injecting colour, using blue, green and red tones. The furnishings are bespoke, designed and made by local craftsmen in a rustic yet contemporary style.

Natural sisal flooring is used almost throughout the upstairs with all six of  the bathrooms having under-floor heating. Combinations of tiles in stone, marble, iridescent glass and ceramic feature  in the bathrooms, along with power showers and stand alone bathtubs.

Distinctive features of the landscaped garden include a free-standing glass balustrade which surrounds the raised Garuppa wood sun deck. Rolling lawns, shrubs and trees provide the perfect backdrop to an evening barbecue.

The garden includes a helipad and other practical touches, such as outside foot showers and a storage building for stowing wet suits, body boards and bikes.

Abersoch is a wonderful base to explore the Llŷn Peninsula from. It has great beaches, internationally recognised sailing waters, pleasant climate and beautiful scenery. Walking, cycling, surfing, sailing, diving, golf and fishing are just some of the many activity options all on your doorstep.

Guest Book

Excerpt from The Evening Standard 12 May 2010

The £70,000 Bulthaup kitchen is open plan with a proper five-ring chefs-style cooker — perfect for feeding all eight of us house guests. A stunning glass cube extension houses the dining table and links the kitchen to one of the two living rooms. We used this one more — with a PlayStation 2 and plasma television it was cosier and more family friendly than the larger cinema room with a 50in television with Blu-ray player, shelves lined with books and art. Just off this area is a sauna tiled with Fired Earth tiles — all the en-suite bathrooms are wet rooms stunningly tiled with variations on the same brown theme, and like a hotel there are local organic Celtic Herb Company toiletries in the bathrooms.

On closer inspection the house is brimming with designer names such as B&B Italia Charles sofas and Foscarini Caboche glass wall lights. The bespoke staircase is made from glass, steel and oak, and here hangs a Tom Dixon mirrored copper shade.

The master bedroom has an egg-shaped freestanding stone resin bath sat on a glass platform, as if floating on water, in full view of an oversized arched window with beautiful views across Cardigan Bay to Snowdonia. With no blind or curtain I felt too shy to bathe with the world as my audience — instead letting the children jump in and out of it fully clothed. Someone had to use it.

In fact, unwittingly, the house proved very child friendly. ... we explored the landscaped garden. The beach is just a few minutes down a narrow lane to the front of the house and faces the soft outline of the mountains of west Wales and St Tudwal's Islands. The west island, with an active lighthouse, is owned by adventurer Bear Grylls. You can walk along the coast, past the beach huts to nearby Pwllheli for fresh and crispy fish and chips.

On our last day we took the children down to the beach for some sea air before the long drive back. The choppy, frothy waters of the Irish Sea nipped at the younger one's wellies, while Johnny, the oldest, got slighter damper than planned, ending up walking in right up to his chest. We marched him back to the comfort of the house to get dry before leaving for our more humble homes. Who wants to be a millionaire? At that moment I think we all did.

House & Garden

This place is a wonderful base for a weekend in Abersoch."

Oliver Bennett - The Sunday Times

§  "There's no doubt about it: the location, just outside Abersoch, north Wales, is something special. It may even have one of Britain's finest views, looking over a sandy bay, with craggy rocks beyond and Snowdon shimmering magnificently in the distance..."

The Western Mail

"With a sauna, helipad and hot tub is aimed at reviving the area’s sleeping economy."

Jo Fernandez, Travel Editor - London Evening Standard

"Natural materials are used throughout so that although the look is distinctly high end and contemporary it is undeniably an appealing and relaxing place to while away a weekend in."

Destination introduction

The Lleyn Peninsula extends from Snowdonia National Park and stretches 30 miles into the Irish Sea from North Wales. Its landscape is very different from the rest of North Wales ; the mountains drop sheer to the sea but are interspersed by wide bays, rocky coves and great expanses of sandy beach. There are enchanting fishing villages and, inland, white-washed farms and small fields. Populated since the earliest times, Lleyn still bears traces of ancient Man, with Iron Age hill-forts and Neolithic tombs, standing stones and tracks whose origins are lost in Time.
