Norfolk Hall

Sleeps up to 14

Norfolk Hall is an Elizabethan manor house standing in unspoilt countryside in North Norfolk, and a short drive from Mundesley beach. The grounds include acres of manicured lawns while indoors the long medieval dining hall seats up to 25 people and is perfect for banquets.

The house has existed since the 11th Century when the manor was first granted by William the Conqueror. During the early 18th Century, the Hall was the home of William Talman, royal architect to the court of James I and architect of some of England's finest country houses, including Chatsworth House in Derbyshire. Following a ten-year restoration project by its owners, the Hall is now an immensely welcoming home with many period features, including 17th century portraits, tapestries and antique furniture as well as those all-essential country house sofas.

The Hall is set in six acres of formal and informal grounds that include a  peaceful walled garden with a summer house, fountain, knot garden and swimming  pool (available to use between May 1 and September 30). Beyond the  child-friendly lawn at the front of the Hall is a lime tree walk, statuary, old  moat and wild flower meadow.

Situated between  Aylsham and North Walsham, The Hall lies in an extremely peaceful setting at the end of a long drive off a quiet country lane. There is ample open parking as well as under-cover  parking for two cars.

Destination introduction

For enjoying the best of British seaside reports just 20 minutes from the famous Southwold Beach resort on the Suffolk coastline is Home Farm, a homely and spacious farmhouse set in the midst of 37 acres of its own farmland and fields” – Metlife, April 2009.

Both Norfolk and Suffolk are easily reached from London and their beauty and interest make them perfect destinations for a short break, a long weekend or a longer family holiday.

Norfolk is a county greatly dominated by water – whether it is the endless sandy beaches of the coast or the waterways of the Norfolk Broads. Historic houses, market towns and the tall spires of ‘wool’ churches punctuate the gently undulating countryside, where huge tracts of heathland and forest contrast with richly cultivated areas. The City of Norwich beckons the visitor with its 900-year old cathedral, its Normal castle and enormous open market.

Suffolk is predominantly agricultural, with ancient and beautiful market towns such as Bury St Edmunds and Lavenham to visit, and beautiful villages where the houses are decorated with the elaborate plasterwork unique to the county. An ideal county for walking, cycling or horse-riding, and one where car expeditions are always rewarding, ending up at some delightful pub, tracking down a haunted house, beachcombing or simply admiring the watermills and gentle landscapes immortalized by John Constable.
