Destination introduction

For enjoying the best of British seaside reports just 20 minutes from the famous Southwold Beach resort on the Suffolk coastline is Home Farm, a homely and spacious farmhouse set in the midst of 37 acres of its own farmland and fields” – Metlife, April 2009.

Both Norfolk and Suffolk are easily reached from London and their beauty and interest make them perfect destinations for a short break, a long weekend or a longer family holiday.

Norfolk is a county greatly dominated by water – whether it is the endless sandy beaches of the coast or the waterways of the Norfolk Broads. Historic houses, market towns and the tall spires of ‘wool’ churches punctuate the gently undulating countryside, where huge tracts of heathland and forest contrast with richly cultivated areas. The City of Norwich beckons the visitor with its 900-year old cathedral, its Normal castle and enormous open market.

Suffolk is predominantly agricultural, with ancient and beautiful market towns such as Bury St Edmunds and Lavenham to visit, and beautiful villages where the houses are decorated with the elaborate plasterwork unique to the county. An ideal county for walking, cycling or horse-riding, and one where car expeditions are always rewarding, ending up at some delightful pub, tracking down a haunted house, beachcombing or simply admiring the watermills and gentle landscapes immortalized by John Constable.
