Moor Barn

Sleeps 5

Moor Barn was recently converted from an old traditional feeding barn. The original character of the building has in no way been compromised and the atmospheric open-plan living room on the first floor, beneath the exposed beams of the pitched roof, is both beautiful and comfortable, complete with wood burning stove. The windows overlook lovely views over sea and countryside, as far as Lundy Island.

The ground floor houses the bedrooms, which are furnished in a simple, pretty cottage style, with windows looking on to the garden.

Outside, there is a lovely cottage garden, filled with traditional flowers, with steps leading down to a sunny paved terrace for outdoor meals, drinks, or just a few quiet moments. Set on elevated ground, the garden lawns overlook lovely views over the River Taw estuary and on to the hills of Exmoor. . The sandy beach at Instow is a short 20-minute drive away, as is the quaint village of Appledore, and the farmers’ markets of Bideford and Barnstaple are well worth a visit.

This is a perfect cottage for a family escape or a romantic retreat for a couple, with ample opportunities for spending the time just as you wish, in idle relaxation or in interesting activity.

Destination introduction

"Villa specialist CV Travel has just launched a UK portfolio with a fabulous collection of houses in Cornwall, Devon, The Cotswolds, Herefordshire, Wales, Norfolk & Suffolk. Sleeping between 2 and 22, all the properties have undoubted wow factor” – Angels and Urchins, Spring 2009.

No-one could possibly tire of Devon, and one holiday amidst its glorious scenery could not possibly exhaust all its potential for holiday activity, amusement or interest.

This is the county that was home to Sir Francis Drake and Sir Walter Raleigh, from which Drake’s small ships sailed to defeat the mighty Spanish Armada and the Pilgrim Fathers sailed to a new life in America. Devon is rich in historic interest, from the Jurassic Park of the Riviera to the Roman ruins of Exeter and on to the creations of more modern times.

The haunting scenery of Dartmoor contrasts with the grandeur of the two glorious coastlines, while the beauty of river valleys such as the Dart and the Tamar are legendary.
