Clos St Maurin

Sleeps up to: 10 or 12 (Main House) or 14 (Annexe)

Located in the Luberon Regional Park, Le Clos St Maurin is a beautiful 18th centurytransformed convent set in peaceful and mature gardens. The estate was an important Templar site from at least the 13th century which reputedly accounts for the two magnificent ‘Cedars of Lebanon’ in the gardens.

The house wears its history lightly, and recent renovations have introduced pale, pretty colours and new levels of comfort, with a well-chosen collection of French and English antiques giving it a distinctly aristocratic feel. A large enclosed courtyard leads on to beautiful lawns and shelters an unusual swimming pool based upon a traditional bassin and flanked by a lovely old fountain. There is also a pretty orchard planted with several varieties of fruit trees. The medieval village of St-Saturnin-les-Apt is a short walk away with local shops and several wonderful restaurants, whilst the regional market town of Apt is a ten minute drive. Clos St Maurin is also well positioned to explore the surrounding countryside which is known for its many famous wines. This is a truly stunning, and fascinating house set in magnificent grounds.

Destination introduction

An authentic medieval village St-Saturin features ruins of a castle at one end, and an old windmill to the other, and boasts a choice of restaurants and a couple of boulangeries for those fresh croissants of a morning. Terraced medieval houses feature, with narrow streets passing through low vaulted passages beneath them. Surrounded by oak-forested hillsides, this is truffle country with a life-sized statue dedicated to Joseph Talon, lou rabasste, Pére de la Trufficulture, who was considered the "father of truffle raising" Behind the village is a lovely little lake formed from rainwater collected from the slopes of the Plateau de Vaucluse.
