Destination introduction

The island of Mustique lies in the Northern Grenadines, 18 miles south of St.Vincent and 110 miles west of Barbados.‑ It is 1½ miles wide by 3 miles long, you can walk round it in about 2 hours, and although privately owned by the Mustique Company comes under the jurisdiction of the State of St.Vincent and the Grenadines.

The island covers 1400 acres and apart from the private homes there is a hotel, The Cotton House, the main village is Lovell Village, which houses the island church and police station. At Britannia Bay is the main jetty and the best anchorage and the fishing village, which is the home of the fisherman, some of whom were here before the island became an exclusive enclave.‑ Britannia Bay is also the site of one of the island’s best-known institutions Basil’s Bar. Basil's Bar and Restaurant, the only nightlife spot on the island, is a unique establishment, consisting of a thatch-roofed structure built over the turquoise waters of Britannia Bay. Sooner or later everyone ends up here.

There are some excellent beaches on Mustique and walkways have been built to provide access to some of them. The most protected are in the south west of the island.‑ Lagoon Bay is a gently curving strip of sand, fringed by palm trees. From here you can walk to Gelliceaux Bay, a charming and secluded cove.‑ Endeavour Bay in the north west of the island is the busiest beach as it is nearest to the Cotton House.‑ Further round to the north is L’Ansecoy Bay, whilst on the east or Atlantic coast Macaroni Bay has a wonderful white sand beach.
