Tom Tom

Sleeps up to: 10

The low buildings with their shallow, grey shingled roofs give no hint of the stunning interiors that await the guest arriving at Tom Tom for the first time. Built within the private gated neighbourhood of the Calijanda Estate, this unique villa is close to the famous resorts of Royal Westmoreland and Sugar Hill and within easy reach of Sandy Lane.

Set on a ridge overlooking the gorgeous West coast of Barbados, the architect-designed villa is unusually spacious and exudes understated luxury. Pale colour schemes and furnishings of natural materials allow the brilliance of the views framed by the huge windows to be the centre of attention.

The open-plan ground floor has stone floors and walls of coral stone that make the perfect background for voluptuously comfortable furniture – custom-made in Bali and Indonesia – that is eminently suitable for this setting. A perfectly uncluttered kitchen connects via a practical breakfast bar to the beautiful poolside dining pavilion.

Six bedrooms – four double king-size and two twin-bedded – promise delightfully self-indulgent siestas or sleep, with bathrooms of contemporary elegance, two of them open to the sky with private tropical courtyards.

When it comes to entertaining, Tom Tom excels, with lavishly equipped reception areas centred on the superb 20-metre long infinity swimming pool. Luxurious and aesthetically pleasing with the textures of the different types of stone and marble used, they are further enhanced by some wonderful Balinese stone carvings. Facing West, with views over the Caribbean Sea, there could be no lovelier setting for enjoying good company.

Destination introduction

With an almost uninterrupted, six mile stretch of white sand beach, St James truly is Barbados’s ‘Platinum Coast’. Famous for its beachfront mansions, pristine beaches and luxury hotels, St James incorporates the majority of the island’s west coast and is home to three of Barbados’s world famous private estates – Sandy Lane, Royal Westmoreland and Sugar Hill – with their championship golf courses and facilities. The area’s commercial centre is Holetown, a charming area with fine restaurants and shopping. Directly to the south of Holetown are Sandy Lane Beach and the Paynes Bay area extending down to Fitts Village, Derricks and Prospect. ‘The Garden’ is an exclusive enclave to the north of Holetown, by Lower Carlton and Weston.
