Set in an oasis of one and a half acres of tropical gardens, this traditional style plantation house with its coral stone walls, verandahs and shuttered windows, occupies a prime beachfront location with wonderful views over Mullins Bay. Extra Services

Your every need is catered for at The Great House by the team of 16 full-time staff.

In the kitchen the Executive Chef, Head Chef, Chef and Kitchen Assistant have the expertise to create and prepare menus for all tastes, ages and nutritional requirements.

The three highly-trained Butlers make sure you lack for nothing. Amongst their many duties, they will set up dining areas in various areas of the house and garden, accompany you on picnics, keep you supplied with cold towels throughout the day, serve afternoon tea in the beachside Gazebo, canapés on the Boardwalk and drinks in the bar. Recent training has raised their cocktail repertoire to international standards.

The house and four chattels are the domain of our three Housekeepers and two Laundry staff. They provide a full evening turndown, high-quality seamstress service and ensure all guest suites are stocked with White Linen toiletries.

Two full-time gardeners tend the garden’s collection of choice tropical plants gently shaded by the mature coconut palms. They also keep the beach and Boardwalk fresh and clean. At night, two Security Guards patrol the grounds.

‘Sea Breeze’, our 30’ Grady White motorboat, is manned by our Boatman who is on hand during the day to provide the full range of watersports and transport to destinations on the island.

In addition to this in-house expertise, we have a portfolio of professionals we call upon to provide individual services including masseuses, beauty therapists, personal trainers and nannies.

Destination introduction

With an almost uninterrupted, six mile stretch of white sand beach, St James truly is Barbados’s ‘Platinum Coast’. Famous for its beachfront mansions, pristine beaches and luxury hotels, St James incorporates the majority of the island’s west coast and is home to three of Barbados’s world famous private estates – Sandy Lane, Royal Westmoreland and Sugar Hill – with their championship golf courses and facilities. The area’s commercial centre is Holetown, a charming area with fine restaurants and shopping. Directly to the south of Holetown are Sandy Lane Beach and the Paynes Bay area extending down to Fitts Village, Derricks and Prospect. ‘The Garden’ is an exclusive enclave to the north of Holetown, by Lower Carlton and Weston.
