Ban Laem Sor

Sleeps up to: 8

Recently completed, this beautiful property not only has an exquisite beachfront location, it also has a wonderful setting, nestled amidst coconut palms and with a lovely grassy garden to one side. With accommodation divided between four separate pavilions, it is ideal for two families with children or a group of friends.

Outdoor living is the priority at Ban Laem Sor, with a choice between the superb tropical beach that stretches in front of the villa, the lovely swimming pool separated from that beach only by a line of low palm bushes, or the pretty garden lawns shaded by trees. There is a handsome sala beside the pool, open on all sides to catch the slightest breeze and cushioned for comfort – where better to lounge and soak up the atmosphere in peace?

The two master bedrooms and the living area occupy the two pavilions closest to the beachfront, while two more pavilions behind these house kitchen, dining area and two more bedrooms. The separate buildings, all fully air-conditioned, are connected by terracotta tiled pathways and wooden decks, making it easy to relax and pad about the property barefoot – something that always encourages a holiday feeling. Decoration is kept to a stylish minimum, with furniture in beautiful local wood and just a few dramatic pieces of local carving or pottery. The kitchen is unusually large and well set out, with an island cooking unit – the extra space will undoubtedly encourage guests to take advantage of the opportunity for some tuition by the chef in cooking and preparing a typical Thai meal.

Being so close to the beach, the views are superb – across the sea to the neighbouring islands of Koh Taen and Koh Matsum. The passing boats of local fishermen lend a certain timelessness to the scene and will undoubtedly be the inspiration for some stunning holiday photos.

Destination introduction

Until the Nineteen-Seventies, Koh Samui, Thailand’s third largest island, was isolated, self-sufficient and largely unknown, with no roads at all. The tide of tourism changed all that and now Samui attracts large numbers of visitors. The magnificent, palm-fringed, beaches of white sand are no doubt the main attraction, but Koh Samui has more to offer if you feel inclined to move from those alluring beaches. Apart from the usual water sports, there are possibilities for exploring the rainforest on the back of an elephant, or swinging through the tree canopy, for deep-sea fishing with a very real chance of catching something impressive, for diving and kite-boarding.
