Olive & Wine Villa

Sleeps up to: 14

With towering mountains sheltering rolling green valleys and hills that are home to some of the world’s finest wine estates, and with an ideal Mediterranean climate, South Africa’s Winelands make the perfect setting for holidays that offer a little more than usual.

Stellenbosch is a small and very pretty university town, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and forests and perfect for a relaxed holiday where a group of family or friends can indulge a variety of interests. It is here that we find the elegant two-storey Olive and Wine Villa, dating from Georgian times, a spacious haven of understated luxury and supreme comfort. With a large group, there are times when some of the party seek a little privacy, and the villa is amply supplied with quiet corners, such as the private sitting room in the master bedroom suite, or the separate snooker room, library and TV room. There is also, however, a real opportunity to enjoy great get-togethers, with a big saltwater swimming pool and a huge farm table just right for barbecues or outdoor dining. Stables and horses are available for riding in this perfect countryside, and it goes without saying that wine-tasting will be high on the agenda. Two additional cottages on the estate, quite separate, provide ideal and very private accommodation for a larger party.

Destination introduction

Lovers of fine food and wine will adore the Western Cape’s rich vineyard country. Sample a fine variety of reds and whites while indulging in the magnificent scenery and warm atmosphere of the Western Cape wine routes. Along Table Mountain’s Peninsula Circular Drive, visit the oldest wine estate in the country, Groot Constantia. Beyond Cape Town, Stellenbosch is the second oldest town in South Africa and was founded by Governor Simon Van der Stel in 1679. Originally intended as a vineyard settlement, Stellenbosch is today a picturesque university town. Further afield you can discover Paarl, home to the famous granite domes and the Nederburgh Wine Estate. The Cape of Good Hope with its celebrated nature reserve is around 70 kilometres from the city centre, and a scenic drive to Cape Point reveals breathtaking vistas of pristine beaches, rugged mountain passes and extraordinary native flora. The Western Cape Province offers a fantastic climate and world of attractions, from first class shopping in Cape Town to an ostrich ride at Oudtshoorn!
