The Ourika Valley is about 30 kms from Marrakech, but could well be in another world, where Man and Nature have called a truce, but where Nature has not quite been tamed. One of the freshest and greenest regions in Morocco, the astonishingly colourful valley takes its name from the river that runs vigorously through it. Outcrops of bright rock contrast with a lush abundance of green trees, and the steep hillsides are scattered with striking Berber villages and cultivated terraces.
This graceful natural setting is the prelude to breathtaking views of the High Atlas Mountains. There is much to do and see, and this is a wonderful place for walking. With cascades and waterfalls, riverside restaurants, unsophisticated and extremely lively local markets, Ourika represents a Morocco very different from the sophistication of the cities.
