Old Skala
Dominated by the massive bulk of Mt Aenos, the south of Kefalonia is a paradise to appeal equally to the sunworshipping beach lover or the visitor with a desire to explore the dramatic countryside.
The original village of Skala, set amidst pine and olive groves on a steep mountainside at the south eastern tip of Kefalonia, lay in ruins after the catastrophic 1953 earthquake. In 2006, the ruined village was sensitively revived in the form of ten new villas designed to pay tribute to the past, to allow full enjoyment of the magnificent views, and to offer privacy. There are three fantastic beaches in the vicinity – Skala, Kaminia and Mounda – these last two breeding grounds for the loggerhead turtles.
New additions to Old Skala for 2008 include the opening of the local taverna with its wine cellar with Wifi internet connection and mini-market, a public tennis court for exclusive use of guests staying in Old Skala villas, and at some selected villas – pool heating too!
