PROPERTY INFORMATION Top Back to the top of page

Ponza is famous for its spectacular scenic beauty, lush vegetation, tiny rock beaches dotted with Roman remains. Steeped in history, and located midway between Rome and Naples, it is a short ferry ride from the legendary mainland beaches of Anzio where Mussolini was interned for a short while. Mainly pedestrianised, life in Ponza moves at its own pace only waking up in the summer, whilst life at Casa Fontana is simply an ongoing experience. A touch of Greece yet essentially Italian, the house is white with blue shutters, cool floors with tiles from Vietri which compliment an eclectic mixture of antiques and “shabby chic” furniture. The colour is overwhelmingly white – sofas, chairs, curtains, fluffy white bath towels - simple yet elegant with huge windows framing a backdrop of azure sea. The owner has thought of everything for her guests ‘ comfort: lots of books, an ice-maker, hi-fi/video, heating for the winter months, even a fax to intrude on the idyll. A terrace with marble table for 12 makes it a fantastic spot for sitting out and watching life go by in this enchanting small port, built in Napoleonic times - the ultimate romantic spot for dinner under the stars. From here there is a scented garden with climbing roses, aromatic lavender, bourgainvillea oleander, palm trees, lush sub tropical vegetation, and then down to the mosaic tiled plunge pool area, and separate Turkish steam room – a fantastic spot to sit and sunbathe or sit in shade. Life here is a dream: a meal cooked by the (unobtrusive) resident housekeeper, a short walk to a trattoria or hire a boat and swim/snorkel in deserted coves along the dramatic coastline of towering cliffs. You can even scuba dive in crystal clear waters with the Ponza Diving Centre. Fontana is a place for honeymooners, hedonists – or just escapees from a stressful lifestyle: ask us to arrange a magical stay there for you this summer.
