| A name like ‘Markandoni’ cannot be just a whim of the owner’s imagination and in fact it was inspired by the ancient stone well, dating back to Roman times, that stands at the entrance to the property – Mark Anthony’s travels in the Ionian are a matter of historical fact. Tucked into a steep hillside (there are about 20 steps from the parking area to the house), close to the centre of Old Skala, the cottage is split-level and the rooms all open on to the pool terrace. Exposed stone walls provide the rooms with a rustic feel but the furnishings are of an elegant design, a modern take on traditional style. Contemporary comfort and modern facilities include the beautiful private pool. The views are unforgettable and on a clear day extend as far as the mainland of Greece. The villa really does feel like a country cottage, but it is only a short drive to Skala and the nearby beaches. |
