| Lawrence Durrell’s descriptions of Kalami, the White House and the family that owned it, relate to a Corfu that many people imagine has disappeared for ever. A stay at the White House, however, will convince you that much of the old Corfu is still very much alive today. The simple pleasures of the waterfront are to be enjoyed at leisure – fishing and swimming from the rocks below the house, or from the main beach or one of the less-frequented smaller beaches along the headland. Alternatively hire a small boat and explore the splendid north east coastline in both directions to discover for yourself the delights of the bays such as Agni and Kouloura. The accommodation has been improved since Durrell’s time, but retains its simple charm. The top floor apartment enjoys beautiful views from its small balcony. The taverna below offers excellent traditional dishes and fresh fish, and well run water sports are available in the bay, with a concession for CV Travel clients. |
